Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 10 Feb 01 - 08:20 AM I REALLY hate this sort of thing. "WE NEED TO KNOW." is NOT a reason. Why do you need to know? |
Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 10 Feb 01 - 08:27 AM Maybe there is a sinister plot to register people. I'm British and Canadian.... Next post: How many dual nationality Mudcatters are there. WE (who is WE?) need to know. yours, Aye. Dave (this place is getting very silly) |
Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: bill\sables Date: 10 Feb 01 - 08:45 AM George and Dave, I started the "How many UK catters" thread after a discussion with fellow catters about the idea of organising a gathering. We had no idea of the numbers in the UK or their locations. As you know we are a small country compared with the USA and Canada and so it is possible to find a location which would be accessable for catters from every corner of the UK to attend with little effort. I an sorry if you think this is a sinister exercise. Bill |
Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: Mooh Date: 10 Feb 01 - 08:46 AM Yes Shambles, why do you need to know? Born and bred Canadian, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 10 Feb 01 - 08:56 AM Bill. it would be nice (as George put it) to know why. Unfortunately, Canada is so huge that it is not very easy to get together. I would love to meet other Catters but realistically Musicman and I live a few thousand miles appart. Doubt if we will be able to organise a Song Circle. Winnepeg Manitoba is about central for us. Come to think of it George and I are practically neighbours, but rarely have a chance to meet.(although the few times that we have met have been very pleasant George) Yours, Aye. Dave |

Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: Marion Date: 10 Feb 01 - 11:15 AM I'm Canadian - from Eastern Ontario (where, sadly, I've never met Willie-o or Crowhugger) and currently living in Cape Breton (where, happily, I have met George Seto at Celtic Colours 1999 and 2000). Marion |
Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 10 Feb 01 - 11:55 AM hi Marion, again. Are you ready to have some fun again? Rave Entertainment is again at the helm of Celtic Colours. Bill/Sables, not ascribing sinister motives to you question, but I just couldn't see the sense in it. As someone said earlier, there is a link up at the top which tells all that sort of information for those people who want to give it. That was started so that if someone was going someplace, they can try to locate other Mudcatters who are in the area. I disagreed with just putting province, since as Dave said, Canada, AND the US is pretty large. Knowing the community helps. For instance, just knowing Marion and Dave, and Dan Mckinnon, and myself, are all here in Nova Scotia doesn't help. Dan, Dave and I live within 20 miles of each other, but Marion is over 300 miles away. I STILL don't get to see Dave often or Dan. |
Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 10 Feb 01 - 12:00 PM BTW, in Canada, many people are "gun"-shy (pun intended) about giving details. We're in the process of REGISTERING all guns of all sorts. Some people object. I figure all of this "registering" and information gathering is some weird thing of the statisticians (otherwise known as crazies) to keep track on everyone in the world. Category by category. Remember #6! |

Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: bill\sables Date: 10 Feb 01 - 12:44 PM George the locator was a suggestion I made to bbc about a year ago but as you know there only about 25 UK people who have subscribed to it. Because of the How many UK thread we have realised that there at least 135 of us over here which makes it worthwhile to try to organise a gathering in an area which would be easier for the majority to get to. I know the locator only asks for a state or provence or a county in Britain but that was done to safeguard the individual and not to give too much information as to where exactly you live. You can always give your address to who you wish via PM's or email. I realise that England would probably fit about three times into most US states or Canadian provences or indeed Australian teritories which makes it easier for us over here to actually meet together to play our music and I assure you that, as far as the UK thread is concerned, there was no sinister reason for posting it. Cheers Bill |

Why do you need to know, why I need to know? Lighten up George. If you don't like it, why not just ignore it and leave it to those that clearly do find these sort of things fun? |

Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: Inukshuk Date: 11 Feb 01 - 12:19 PM It won't be in my time, but I can see it coming. One after another they are led before the Tribunal to answer the inevitable question: ARE YOU NOW, OR HAVE YOU EVER BEEN, A MEMBER OF THE MUDCAT PARTY? They all plead the Fifth, or whatever other excuse they think will get them off the hook. It is useless. For years governments and multinational corporations alike have been incidiously infiltrating Mudcat and gathering inconrovertible evidence. It's all there in the archives. You are doomed! That's why I am certainly not going to let it leak out that I am from Brantford, Ontario. |
Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: Mooh Date: 11 Feb 01 - 12:46 PM Inukshuk. I went to elementary school (James Hillier P.S.) in Brantford. Small world eh! Where'd you go to school? Mooh. |

Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: GUEST,Skarpi Iceland. Date: 11 Feb 01 - 04:45 PM Halló all, I have to say that it is a great thing to know how many of the Mudcat people are from Canada, I thing if someone would set off a Mudcat gettogether In Canada I would know about as many I coult. Well I am not from Canada but many Icelanders lives In Manitopa and Winnebeg but I ges that will not count, by the way I had a meeting with McGinty here In Iceland last Friday, and I told them I am coming to Halifax In September and thats it for now. Live In peace, All the best skarpi Iceland. |
Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: Metchosin Date: 11 Feb 01 - 05:53 PM Sure it would Skarpi, at least honorary. I think Gimli, Manitoba, has the largest Icelandic population in the world outside of Iceland. I have a very soft spot in my heart for Icelanders, one of my dearest friends, Wendy, was one, sadly she's not with us anymore. click here Too bad this country's so damned big. Makes get togethers difficult. |

Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: Ebbie Date: 12 Feb 01 - 03:08 AM No, The Shambles, I guess with that name they should be but the Erratics are definitely not rock! (A glacial erratic is a moving boulder traveling on what later becomes the moraine of a glacier, I understand) The Glacial Erratics are a 4-woman band that writes almost all its own material, including some wonderful songs. They do an annual tour and cut some cds off season. A couple of the members live in Juneau, the other two in Whitehorse. Ebbie

Subject: RE: How many Canadian Mudcatter's are there? From: Owlkat Date: 13 Feb 01 - 01:30 AM Hi Ebbie, As a matter of fact I do know most of the Erratics. Small town bright lights and all that. Betsy Sims is a wonderful person and lives in Juneau and got me some very fun gigs in Juneau and Skagway, and has released at least one cd of her own. If you're ever in Juneau in the summer you can catch her playing at the salmon barbecue, among other places. Kim Barlow plays a banjo I restored and sold her, and has released a cd of her own last year. Um, there are a few others whose names escape me, and there are two Erratic cds that I know of. They are very Northern songs and neat to listen to. So There, Cheers, Owl. |
