I must confess I don't know the answer to this question, but I'm trying to enlist every Irish man and woman where I work to experience Mudcat Cafe Radio. There are many Scotch and Irish still building ships up here in Maine. There are also many fine French shipbuilders too. The shipbuiders of French decent are the majority. Everyone else is in the diverse category. So, how 'bout some Acadian music on Mudcat for a change? I bought my first fiddle from Claude Gagnon. And what a fine fiddle player he still is! wdyat12

Me Kerry.Ps W12,I believe "scottish" is preferred,scotch refers to the drink.I was once corrected on this point by a "scotsman"!.

right Death by Whisky, of course it also refers to Scotch terriers. "Scotch" people for some reason get very annoyed at being called "Scotch". I know, I'm been married to one for 32 years! Keep them happy and call them Scottish.

I took this to be a geographical question rather than an ethnic one. How many Ireland, rather than how many Irish.

Scotch used to refer to anything other than whisky is regarded as bad usage in Scotland.You could say e.g. He is Scots.He is Scottish. or,He is a Scotsman. but you would never say,He is scotch. well definitely not in Scotland:)

It does indicate the I had difficulty in wording this thread. I suppose it was how many in Ireland as opposed to how many Irish Mudcatter's.

There are probably many more Irish Mudcatter's than there are Mudcatter's actually living in Ireland?

I've BEEN to Ireland - my twins were "made" there - and my ancestors went through there between being French Huguenots and American Quakers... although who knows what they'd have done there, not the puritanical-est of the British Isles, that one!
