Subject: Hymn: King of Love
From: GUEST,Paul Mitchell(at mum's)
Date: 11 Feb 01 - 07:07 AM

I hope you good people can help. My father died last week, which is a great loss, and we have the funeral tomorrow (Monday 12th). My mum has asked me to find the sheet music for a Hymn entitled "The King of Love My Shepard Is". Well, I'm tied u with suporting my mum, and doing my own grieving. So, any help in knowing where to look on the net would be a great help. I'll check in regularly.

Paul.

My condolences on the loss of your father. This is a difficult and painful time for you; may the music help in your grief.
I just did a search under "links" above, and found that the search engine at "Cyber Hymnal" is disabled for now. You might be able to find the words there, but it'll take some searching on your own.
I don't know if you are in the US, the UK, or where, but if you can get your hands on the Hymnbook of the Episcopal Church (US), you will find what you're looking for at #645 and 646. I've heard it done at baptism, weddings, and funerals, and it's lovely.

If you really can't find it, I could fax it to you early Monday morning, Mudcat time, if that would be time enough. Email me today at aac@monad.net

Click here for the page in Cyber Hymnal with the tune known as St Columba

At that page you can find the score to that tune and to the other tune known as "Dominus Regit Me". Blessings on the task at hand!

thanks for your help on this. The score is spot on. My aunt will have a look over it tomorrow, as she's the one who will be playing it.

Thanks for your kind thoughts and help.

Paul

Glad I could be of help! May the funeral be a time of tears and, yes, joy in the memories.

Paul,

Sorry to hear of your loss. That song is here: http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/k/i/kinglove.htm (or go to cyberhymnal.org and search under Titles, etc.)

I did my own arrangement to this one at one time, and I have cyberhymnal bookmarked.

Lyrics to THE KING OF LOVE MY SHEPHERD IS have been posted in the thread called: What makes a good hymn?

Sheet music can be found in many old hymnals and songbooks that are viewable with Google Books, for example, The Euterpean edited by John W. Tufts (New York: Silver, Burdett & Co., 1888), page 221.
