Hey Chicago folks:
Tom and Chris Kastle are hosting a chantey sing at the Sheridan Shores Yacht Club in Wilmette this Sunday, 2pm, 18 February. Sounds like it will be a great time. It is not often that you get something like this in the area. Apparently this has been well attended in the past.
Cheers,
Brian

I grew up in Chicago but it's a bit of a trek from San Francisco so I don't think I'll make it. I hope a good time is had by all attending!

Richard

Rad:
Just wanted to advertise that Chicago does chanteys from time to time! A little frustrating to wait 6+ months for a decent chantey sing ...
Cheers,
Brian

Hope someone works up that old Chicago chantey "The Lincoln Park Pirates" by Steve Goodman; as we sing it here in Portland, Maine, its chorus runs:

Away, hey, haul 'em away!
The parking lot pirates are we!
From the Hill to the Ferry,
There's none that's so hairy,
And we always collect our fee!
Away, hey, haul 'em away!
We plunder the streets of yer town,
Be it Edsel or Chevy,
There's no car too heavy,
And no one can make us shut down!

Arghhh!

Wow!
The chantey sing hosted by the Sheridan Shores Yacht Club, and in turn orchestrated by Tom and Chris Kastle proved to be a great success -- signs of sings to come.
A great event attended by 4 Mudcatters (at least those willing to be identified); one new Mudcatter -- known only as Dan sang his chanteys influenced by exposure to the Ancient Mariners and Cliff Haslam: a great contribution by a former CT resident (I thought I was back at Mystic).
I want to say that the other Mudcatters are Gazebo/Renn Faire related folks -- some wonderfully lyrical stuff and a Midwest connection to the DC based Pyrates Royale ... what a small world.
Chicago is on the way to starting a regular chantey sing ...watch out!
Yes, Nirvana...
Cheers,
Brian

Great stuff, Brian! Maybe we'll get out to join you for one. Had a good 3-hour sing at the Seamen's Church Institute by South Street Seaport in NYC on Saturday night. I have seen you there before, so I hope you'll be back again one day.

All the best,
Dan Milner
