Subject: Finding a singing teacher From: KingBrilliant Date: 15 Feb 01 - 05:09 AM I've finally decided that Hammerite & I need to be taught proper stuff, and how not to mess up our voices. So, I need to find a singing teacher. I've found some agencies on the internet, who put you in touch with local teachers - but nothing beats personal recommendation does it? Does anyone know of a good teacher near Reading, Berks, UK? Or failing that, does anyone have any good/bad comments about the various agencies? Cheers'm'dears Kris |

Subject: RE: Finding a singing teacher From: GUEST,Sooze(at work) Date: 15 Feb 01 - 07:16 AM Look out for a weekly or monthly singing workshop in your area. We have several here in Lincolnshire and they are an enjoyable way of finding out new things about your voice! The one I go to is at the Trinity Arts Centre in Gainsborough. The next one is on Saturday 10th March and will be led by Kate Witney. (10am -12noon) Very friendly and relaxing. |

Subject: RE: Finding a singing teacher From: Alice Date: 15 Feb 01 - 11:33 AM Call the University closest to you and talk to the music department. They might be able to refer you to private teachers. The best personal recommendation would be from professional singers who have been shaped by good teachers in your area. See if you can go through the University to find such people. |

Subject: RE: Finding a singing teacher From: pastorpest Date: 16 Feb 01 - 03:19 PM I echo trying the university route. There are good voice teachers out there and a good one is worth the money you spend. Not only will you learn how to take care of your voice, but we all make major mistakes in vocal technique that we usually do not hear ourselves. Good voice training will correct these one by one. If you do not hit it off with the the first voice teacher you find then try another. My classically trained voice teacher, who does opera, is quite happy to work with me in folk music. |
