If pro is the opposite of con, what is the opposite of progress? (Mark Twain)

We do not know what we do not know.

If we are going to have songs for World War III, we had better write them now.

If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around. (From The Cowboy's Guide to Life)

Never trust a magazine where the articles look like advertisements and the advertisements look like articles. (Me)

No one is listening until you fart.

Always remember you're unique. Just like everyone else.

It is far more impressive when others discover your good qualities without your help.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Necessity is a real mother.

"You gotta get it all to get it all to grow" --Jeff Lynne

"Shut the f*** up and play yer guitar" --Noel Gallagher

"What does it take to be a man?
What does it take to see it's all heart and soul, a gentle hand?
So easy to want, and so hard to give
How can you be a man 'til you see beyond the life you live?
Oh, what does it take to be a man?

We can be blind, but a man tries to see
It takes tenderness for a man to be what he can be
And what does it mean if you're weak or strong?
A gentle feelin' can make it right or make it wrong
What does it take to be a man?

The will to give and not receive
The strength to say what you believe
The heart to feel what others feel inside
To see what they can see

A man is somethin' that's real
It's not what you are, it's what you can feel
It can't be too late to look through the hate and see
I know that's what a man can be

Hutzul,

Are you sure about Sir Arnold Bax? I'd always heard that accredited to Sir Thomas Beecham
"Sir Thomas, Have you ever conducted any Stockhausen?"
"No, but I once trod in some!"

A favourite of mine is from Terry Pratchett
"The truth may be out there - The lies are in your head".

Good Luck

I still love the supposed Winston Churchill quote which said that;-

"When he was 18 years old he was appalled at how little his parents knew whereas at 21 he was amazed at how much they had learned in three years"

It was the only thing that kept me going when my son was at that obnoxious "know-it-all" stage

Sir Arnold Bax (Master of the Kings Muisik) was the first documented utterer of the "Try everything once except incest and folk dancing" quote but by the same token I have seen the "It's all folk singing, ain't never heard a horse sing" quote credited (unshakably) to Louis Armstrong, (definitely) Fats Waller and (no it was) Buddy Bolden.

What goes around goes around more than once. You can quote me on that.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

It's always darkest before the dawn.So if you're going to steal your neighbors newspaper, that's the time to do it.

Timing has an awful lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

Good judgement comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement.

Duct tape is like the force:It has a light side & a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

There are two theories to arguing with women, neither one works.

Experience is the sinking feeling that you've made this mistake before.

Look out for #1,and don't step in #2.
