Does anyone know of a song (fairly recent I think) that begins with the line ..Photograph, faded in sepia, look at that there's your Grandparents... It may be called Wee Barra Shore? I have the tune but not all the lyrics or the artist so any help welcomed.

Secondly heard someone singing a song (from a musical Hit the Deck?) called Alleluja - does anyone know where you can get the tune or lyrics?.

Final request - our ceilidh band desparately needs SIMPLE (nothing more than Bridge of Athlone) dances for St Patricks night - does anyone have steps for this type of dance - we have the music!! Thanks Mudcatters

Absolutely nothing on the first, the second is called Hallelujah, and it is from the musical Hit the Deck, but no luck on lyrics. Do you have even a snippet? All that turned up was Christian sites, Handel and "I'm a Bum".

OK, I found some snippets finally for Hallelujah, but not complete. You could order the sheet music from here, for $3.00. Click on the "H" in the titles, and it's the 2nd one.

Levy has it listed, but no photo of the music. What I found is:

1st line of song: I'm recallin' times when I was small
1st line of chorus: Sing Hallelujah, Hallelujah, and you'll shoo the blues away

Other snippet: Satan lies awatin' and creatin' skies of grey, but Hallelujah, Hallelujah, helps to shoo the clouds away

Sorry I can't be more help, and still nada on Wee Barra.

Thanks for trying Sorcha. That clears up one thing I don't think the Hallelujah can be from Hit the Deck neither is it the Bob Dylan or is it Leonard Cohen number. All I know is it sounds sort of Cole Porterish and is about some guy singing about the date he's just had. I think it must come from around the 1920s-1950s Oh dear that's quite a big time span really! I've tried searching the net but no luck .

It still might be that one. Hit the Deck is about 3 sailors on shore leave chasing girls. It was also made into a movie about 1950. You can listen to a RA snip of Hallelujah here, scroll down, and the sound track is also for sale.

Nope definitely not the Hit the Deck number Sorcha but thanks for trying to hunt it down. We did a gig at a wedding at Cambridge Uni and this group of singers sang it - well one sang it and the rest sort of made background noises. It was very ballady - just remember it as being a bit unusual and wondered if it could be adapted for grrls to sing. Cheers stf

Sarah, you may have found Alleluja by now, but in case not; the Hit the Deck number Sorcha suggested is the correct one - I've just listened to the sample, and it is confusing, because it begins with the verse. The last few words on the sample are the chorus. 'Sing hallelujah, hallelujah, and you'll shoo the blues away....'The song is called Hallelujah, or possibly Sing Hallelujah.

Subject: Lyr Add: HALLELUJAH (Youmans, Grey, Robin))

Copied from http://lyricsplayground.tripod.com/alpha/songs/h/hallelujah.html

HALLELUJAH
(Music : Vincent Youmans - Lyrics : Clifford Grey / Leo Robin)
Debbie Reynolds, Vic Damone, Jane Powell, Ann Miller, Kay Armen & Chorus - 1927

I'm recalling times when I was small, in light and free jubilee days:
Old folks praying, everybody swaying. Loudly I chanted my praise.
How I sang about the Judgment morn
And of Gabriel tooting on his horn.
In that sunny land of milk and honey, I had no complaints.
While I thought of Saints. So I say to all who feel forlorn:

Sing "Hallelujah! Hallelujah!" and you'll shoo the blues away:
When cares pursue you, "Hallelujah!" gets you through the darkest day.
Satan lies awaiting and creating skies of grey,
But "Hallelujah! Hallelujah!" helps to shoo the clouds away.

Nope not that one. It sounded sort of 1920s 1930s and was about this chap who was singing about his new girlfriend. The Halleluja bit was in the chorus and was an exclaimation of joy at the love he had found. Sounded a bit Cole Porter - something like that.
