As I was scrolling through the thread list looking for some topic that looked promising, I remembered when I first found Mudcat. As I recall, I read through all of the active message threads for that day. If my memory is serving me correctly, there were about fifty threads.

Look at how Mudcat has grown! Today, in the 24-hour thread list, there are 140 or so threads and the number of messages in them seems higher than I recall. Clearly, Max is providing a much appreciated service.

Yes, it is harder to find the "meaty" topics but in return there is an even wider range of experience and knowledge. I gather that some Old Cats PM each other when they discover a thread that they think another would be interested in. That is a big help. I am sure I miss threads that I would find fascinating. I almost missed the Walt Robertson thread, one of the absolute best Mudcat has ever hosted. I've learned though that when the contributions of individuals are discussed, it brings out wonderful first-hand stories so I try to look for those threads.

I am curious about the growth of Mudcat. How many more people are posting now than say one or two years ago? Are PMs a major form of communication among members? Are there really as many more threads active each day as I recall. No, I don't need to know but I am curious.

Sourdough,

I'm basically a newbie. When I first started dropping in at Mudcat about a year ago I only read all of the threads, now with getting to know some of the people and making friends, and I am certain a few not so friendly, I feel completely free to post on any thread I wish to.

I do pm several members and E~mail others, but most I come into contact with through the Pal Talk / Mudcat Song Circle. That is where I really seem to get a better feel for the person I am trying to communicate with.

The only way you'll get an answer to that is from the System Admin/Engineer, Doctor Max. He could drum up some numbers about the poxie packets that the populations packs into the threads, and at what rate.

Howsomever, I would rather croon sonnets to the lasses of the Taverne from the back of a 1939 Indian.

Well spoken "dough". Still lots of quality here, with good new folks arriving everyday. I agree the "Walt thread" was exceptional. One of the very best since I came here three years ago.

I've just had a look back through my PM archive to see how much I use it. I seem to average receiving about 30 PMs per month, approx 90% of which are JoeClone/Paltalk/other tech related. Most of the PMs I send are replies to others - I rarely initiate a conversation.
