Subject: NEW STUFF IN THE MUDCAT SONGBOOK! From: Áine Date: 22 Feb 01 - 01:35 PM Hello all you 'Catters! There are two new developments in the Mudcat Songbook today -- and your contributions are needed to make this THE best collection of original songs and now stories on the Net! There's a new page -- The Storytellers' Page -- where I'm hoping to post all those great original tales (tall and otherwise) that you 'Catters are known for. So, get busy and type 'em up and send them to me in a PM or by email - doireanne@yahoo.com - and share the wisdom, humour or silliness inside you. The other new development is a new Song Category -- Songs of Inspiration -- If you've written a song (or two or three) that lifts the spirit or heals the heart, this is place to share it with the Mudcat world. Send them in by PM or email, and share the joy! I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of wonderful songs and stories -- So, get busy 'Catters! -- Áine

Subject: RE: NEW STUFF IN THE MUDCAT SONGBOOK! From: Lonesome EJ Date: 22 Feb 01 - 04:06 PM Aine, welcome back! The storyteller's page is a great idea. Do you plan to list just original stories, or stories from folklore as well? If you intend to compile tradtional stories, several threads including the End of the World and How Coyote Got his Name threads are currently running. mMario seems to have a good knowledge of story threads on the Mudcat, as well, and may help. |

Subject: RE: NEW STUFF IN THE MUDCAT SONGBOOK! From: Áine Date: 22 Feb 01 - 04:25 PM Hey LEJ! It's great to be back (where I belong - hahaha). Amergin just asked me the same thing in the 'Additions to Mudcat Storytellers' Page' thread. Here's what I told him: As long as it's not copyrighted (by anyone but yourself), I don't see a problem with submitting your own 'original' re-telling of a folktale. So, tell OR re-tell away, 'Catters! And I forgot to say in my first message above that submissions can also be made by PM. -- Áine |

Subject: RE: NEW STUFF IN THE MUDCAT SONGBOOK! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Feb 01 - 09:29 PM Stories - now that is a great innovation. Though I'm not a much of a storyteller myself, outside of songs, I think that any folk event that doesn't have room for stories is incomplete. Traditional as learnt, reworked traditional, or original in some kind of oral traditional style. Like songs.
Anyway, click on this for a story I told on the Mudcat a few months back, which I liked well enough to put on my own website - and you're more than welcome to include it if you like. |

Subject: RE: NEW STUFF IN THE MUDCAT SONGBOOK! From: Áine Date: 27 Feb 01 - 08:59 AM Hi Neil! Yes, I did get your email, but when I tried to open the songbook up in Word, all I got were a bunch of symbols. Is there another way I could try to open it? Let me know, as I'm really interested in seeing it. All the best, Áine |

Subject: RE: NEW STUFF IN THE MUDCAT SONGBOOK! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 27 Feb 01 - 09:21 AM Neil's book opened fine for me, Áine - I saved it to my hard disk from his e-mail attachment. Then I clicked on it, it asked me what to open it with, I said WinWord; then up came a WinZip window, clicked on that, and next thing, there was Neil's book on screen. Lots of good stuff in it, definitely worth getting it to load.
If you haven't got WinZip there's a free download from here http://www.winzip.com/ (It's an evaluation one officially, but it seems to do the job fine - no doubt if you register and pay a bit you get improvements of one sort or another.)
