Sorry the day I was married?

My mother swears blind that they had fight the good fight....

We had a fiddler lead us from the church to the reception, a 20 min walk through the main shopping street of the town.... He just kept playing morris tunes and Haste to the Wedding.

Try "Rain in the Desert" by Liz Donalson, or "Two Rivers" by one-of-those-Ungers.

For the benefit of all US Mudcatters, "Cock up your Beaver" is an admonition to set your top-hat at a jaunty angle. Pheeww ...........

I've just decided on Burns' (or was it O'Carolan's tune?) "Cock up your Beaver". Nice.

My friends had "Give me your hand" played, and it was lovely. Unfortunately it means that when my turn comes I shall have to think of something different.

This is a fascinating thread. We are playing a wedding on April ist, and we were going to do O'Carolan tunes exclusively, but I shalll rethink that one in view of what I read here. For one tune only, I would suggest O'Carolan's "Si Bheag and Si Mhor".

Hey Matt, would you forward me these John McCusker tunes if I ask nicely and pay the mailing ? Also the Woman of Ireland. I am serious. And I promise I won't even tell you who John McCusker used to room with ........

Thank you all. As it turns out, I found a piece I want to play by looking through my old piano stuff - Meditation from Thais by Massanet. Of course I can learn the violin in two months.

Marion, No one has suggested the obvious piece, The Lover's Waltz by Jay Ungar. It isn't overdone, or hackneyed, and it is simply beautiful. It isn't too hard, either.

Marion,

I think Ashokan Farewell would be wonderful!! It has a beautiful lilt. By all means play that.

Banks of the Bann, which made it to the hymnals as Be thou my vision so you can impress the folkies and the church people at the same time.

How about Bach's Cantata 147, also known as 'Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring'?

I often play it on the organ during the signing of the register - or maybe 'Flocks in Pastures Green Abiding', also by Bach...

PM me with your email address if you need the dots.

More appropriate for grooms is "The Girl I Left Behind Me"!

I once wrote a waltz for 2 friends which I had hoped to be played at their wedding. It's not very good but here it is.

I've played Mna na hEireann (The Woman of Ireland) on fiddle...and on several occasions, some female friends said they'd like it played at their wedding.

OK, so my mother's getting married and wants me to do a fiddle thing during the signing of the register. Any suggestions? The only slow airs I know are laments and not really appropriate. Neither my mother or her boyfriend are specifically into Scottish/Irish music, so I want something with general appeal. Maybe a nice waltz, or something like Ash Grove, or an old hymn? A short classical piece could do too if it weren't too hard. Do you think Ashokan Farewell is too melancholy for a wedding?

Thanks, Marion
