Subject: So, how's it going? From: Allan C. Date: 02 Mar 01 - 09:55 PM Two months have passed since so many of us made our New Years resolutions or declarations or whatever in this thread. I thought it might be interesting to see if some of them are being kept. Take this opportunity to brag a little if you are still not smoking or have otherwise improved your lot in the way you had indicated in that thread. But even if you didn't make a resolution, feel free to boast here about something you've accomplished recently. I once knew a professor who invariably greeted people by asking, "What have you done lately that you're proud of?" It was certainly disarming and it always made me think a little. How would you answer? So far I have been keeping my resolution. See, there is power in posting it here! I am halfway to reaching my weight loss goal. |

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: Troll Date: 02 Mar 01 - 10:16 PM I made NO resolutions and, I am proud to say, have broken none. I am also giving up nothing for Lent. My neighbor down the street, he's giving up dates with Christy Brinkley. She's gonna be heatrbroken. troll |

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: katlaughing Date: 02 Mar 01 - 10:54 PM Oh, Allan, I have only now been able to start on losing weight, again, after getting off some nasty drugs, BUT I haven't written more, which was one of my goals. As to my other goal of getting out of Wyoming to see a few of you...today, for the first time in many years, I was able to make a decent deposit to our savings account, SO that goal is looking more attainable as time goes by...it will probably be to Louisville to see our son and take in Catspaw's, along with MaryinKY, Bearheart, and all the udder Mudders who are in the central part of the States. Hopefully we can make it a Central U.S. Mudcat Gathering or some such! Thanks for the reminder! kat

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: CarolC Date: 03 Mar 01 - 09:56 AM I still haven't a clue about the direction in which I want to move this year. So it's hard to tell whether I'm making any progress or not. I'm having a great time trying to find out, though. Carol |

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: DancingMom Date: 03 Mar 01 - 11:10 AM Good for you, Allan C, on your weight loss! I had decided I was going to control the food, instead of the other way around, but I still struggle. I'm plowing through the last stretch of nursing school, pulling A's and B's, working ( a little ) and raising four kids, age 8 to 17. Carol, you made a great point about enjoying yourself along the way. Thank you. |

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: Allan C. Date: 03 Mar 01 - 11:34 AM So far, so good, Troll! kat, here's wishing you the very best on your weight loss plans. I wish that there were a way for me to meet up with you when you have saved up enough to travel as far as Spawville; but who knows what the future might bring? Carol, it seems to me that you have already chosen a direction of sorts. Now, if you could only get paid for enjoying yourself... Mr. Red, I hope happiness reigns throughout your new relationship. DM, I deeply admire your efforts. I worked in that field for quite a few years and helped quite a few nursing students with their studies. So I know how huge of a task it can be even without trying to raise any kids. That you are able to do so well in your studies and raise four children is a mammoth accomplishment! |

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: Hawker Date: 03 Mar 01 - 11:53 AM Well done Allan opn the weight loss, I decided to alter my diet for life at New Year, I have heart trouble and was not doing myself any favours. I am now 9 pounds lighter and still going steady. I look on it more of a life change than a diet, and it seems somehow easier to manage! Lucy |

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: Naemanson Date: 03 Mar 01 - 12:09 PM I resolved to lose a little weight, start dating only super models, make my first billion and experience better daydreams. Doing fine so far. |

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: Little Hawk Date: 03 Mar 01 - 04:04 PM I didn't make any New Year's resolutions. I never do. Had I done so, however, it might have been to gain some weight. Seriously. Ironical, isn't it? - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: Allan C. Date: 04 Mar 01 - 08:59 PM Lucy, it is truly a life change. It has to be to make it work - or at least that is true about certain aspects of weight loss/maintenance. Once eating habits are really examined and appropriate changes are made, a new way of thinking about intake becomes vital to success. You are nine pounds lighter now which is clear evidence that you have made all of the necessary changes and have the determinatin to continue with those changes. Good going!! Naemanson, congrats on the weight loss. You can have my share of supermodels. And remember that even a billion pennies is a tidy sum. Little Hawk, as a past master of the gentle art of gaining weight, I would be happy to pass on some useful pointers. Just send me a PM and I'll get you started. Meanwhile, just get a part-time job at a local convenience store, as I once did, and eat ALL of the burritos, donuts and snack cakes as they go out of date. Mr Red, I did the whisky thing although I never lost much of anything other than my stomach lining. I became such an adept drinker that it became an expensive passtime with rapidly diminishing results. I saw no reason to continue. I don't miss it a bit. |

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 05 Mar 01 - 02:41 AM Well Lent is proving to be a bit of a bugger - gave up drinking cola at work, and now I fall asleep on the train home. Bummer. I gave up listening to sermons one year. I spent time with the children's creche instead. Never did learn not to have a child though. As for New Year, I resolved about 15 years ago never to make any more resolutions. Kept it so far. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: So, how's it going? From: Allan C. Date: 05 Mar 01 - 11:36 PM Matt, at least you can claim a temporary success (he said, while trying his best to sound like Haley Mills in "Pollyanna"). Nearly everyone I know has a long list of relationships that for some reason didn't last. But many of them have since found someone who has wanted to build a world with them. I wish you well on your version of this journey. Liz, it will take your body a bit of time to accustom itself to the lack of chemical boost it had gotten used to. But before long things should even out. But consider this as well: Is is possible that there are other forces at work here? Could you be recoiling from an added stress? As for the sermons, well, some preachers preach AT people and others preach FOR them. It is a sad truth (I think) that, while many believe that they are "called" to that line of work, only a few are truly gifted. Your alternative choice sounds to me like a good one. What greater gifts can you give children than your time and your affection? In general the statistics on keeping New Years resolutions present a rather abysmal outlook on the odds of someone keeping them. I read one poll that stated over 80 percent of the resolutions are trashed before the end of January. I can't blame anyone for avoiding them. This is one of only a few years that I have bothered to make any resolutions. BDBR, it sounds as if you were well on your way. I used to do the bars with a guy who could down a mug of beer without needing to swallow. He was FAST!! We kept ourselves in beer by taking bets on who was the fastet. He always won. However, I doubt that he could attain the goal you have set forth. It seems a shame that there are so very many things like that which don't really pay for themselves and which just seem to suck up the money. I guess that's one reason I never owned a darkroom, for instance. |
