Thief,

"Actually, nobody in this thread accused MAV of being a bigot until AFTER he posted the thing about Byrd"

Au contraire mon frere. I never said it happened in this thread. I said catspaw did it.

"But I don't expect truth from MAV so this particular little lie is hardly disappointing"

If you want to be disappointed I could point you to the exact post, but I hardly think you care about the truth. It is as I said.

"Just more proof of the pudding"

Pretty shallow, mouse-boy, read Bushwhacked-Eight.

"Some uninvited guests are like pet stains on the carpet: you keep hoping they'll go away, but they never do"

There he goes again, lyin' on himself, I was invited and I even joined.

You kids are just too much fun.

watch out for the cops!

Oh sure he'll be around. Look at Reagan. The man didn't have two brain cells to rub together, but he surrounded himself with a decent staff, and looked (and sounded) good on camera, and got himself elected to 2 terms.

Face it, we're stuck with Bush Lite for another 3 years, 10.5 months.

Spaw, I do believe you're right- e's just about got it down.

Does anyone else have the same odd feeling I have that he isn't going to be around very long? I only hope it's not by assassination. Martyring someone is totally nonproductive. Maybe he will resign?

On the other hand, maybe I've got that feeling only because I don't want to believe that he's the one we've got. President Bush?

Oh come on Greg, everybody knows you can't trust that Ron Popeil guy as far as you can throw a Pocket Fisherman(tm) with one hand tied behind your back. He's doing infomercials now for the Showtime Rotisserie and BBQ -- which he invented, of course. I wouldn't buy a Miracle Mav-Out if I had mav in my living room and the wallpaper was starting to peel.

But if you're willing to pitch in, maybe we can work out some kind of a sharing arrangement.

bush tipping...gods.. how did we Texans miss that sport when we had the chance?

I don't think tha the "glaze" has ever been better captured than by the Saturday Night Live comedian who did the debate skit (Will Farrell?).

...The slow drift of the attention.. the blinking...the vaguely constipated expression...

I laughed until I cried when I saw him do that. Now when I see the debatably real president do it, I just cry.

LH said above that he pitied anyone who becomes president at this juncture. Me too, but i also pity the people they govern. We've let ourselves be run out of good choices by two parties that have more similarites than differences.

Here's how it got so serious.

Cat accuses me of being a bigot.

I respond by stating that the democRATS are the bigots and give examples of democRATs Fritz Klan Flag Hollings (D-SC), Grand Imperial Wizard of the Senate, Bobbie Jim Carl Byrd (D-WV), and George Murdering Racist Wallace (D-AL)

The "Conscience of the Senate"(Byrd) then shoots his mouth off Friday and proves me right. (Thank you very much)

Allow me to add the references of clinton telling lesbian jokes to Sen. Bob Kerry (D-NE) and Hildebeast's FJB comments. Not to mention algor's troops in NH calling Bob Kerry a cripple and Jerry Nadler (D-NY) a FAT PIG!

Of course I would be remiss if I neglected to remind you of all the mean spirited character assassination and downright disrespect leveled at women who threatened to expose your war hero, the philandering rapist, William Jefferson (a slave holder) Blythe Clinton.

Before you even bring up David Duke, we don't like him, he is a RINO! and we now realize that he too is likely a democRAT!

These are YOUR "Leaders"

Defend 'em Catspaw!

Don't hate me because I'm RIGHT!

SINSULL - Does it look anything like the hat that Garry Trudeau used to draw in place of Dubya's face? BTW, has Dubya's actual face (or a replica of it) EVER appeared in Doonesbury?

One thing about last year's election...Bush always looked like an American president to me, just in his general appearance, while Gore most definitely did not. I don't know what Gore did look like, just not like an American president. I can't explain it. Just a general impression somehow. It had nothing to do with my estimate of their respective points of character, one way or another. Because of it, I had a strong gut feeling that Bush would be elected, all through the whole campaign. File this under "strange tales", I guess...but my gut feeling proved to be accurate regarding the outcome. I simply never expected Gore to win.

And Mfune (I believe that means "Dumbest Bunny in the Veldt" in Swazi) just gave Clinton the NAACP "Man of the Year" and now wants to make a moral pronuciamento. Who better? Jesse Jackson, Marion Barry? OJ Simpson? And Clinton said, when accepting the award, "Yes, I am the black President." 'Nuff said.

SeanM, did you see Bill Maher's tip a few weeks ago? It was hilarious.

Speaking directly to Duh, he said something like, Dubya, you know you never wanted to be president, you only wanted to win, to make your dad feel good and besides it looks good on your resume. Well, you made it, you've proved that you could do it, so why don't you just quit now and go home? Looking at you, anybody can tell that you already know you don't know the first thing about being president and you're scared to death, and things are only going to get worse...

Not to cast aspersions on Mr. Mfume (I'd rather not be snowed under in lawsuits)... but isn't ALL progress 'relative' to something? How else does one know that one is progressing unless one is able to compare and contrast the relative state of yourself and something else?

Grrr... semantics... *grumble*

Byrd, yesterday:``I apologize for the characterization I used on this program. The phrase dates back to my boyhood and has no place in today's society. As for my language, I had no intention of casting aspersions on anyone of another race,'' according to the statement read on air.

NAACP President Kweisi Mfume was not particularly impressed by Byrd's apology. He telephoned The Associated Press to say the fact that Byrd felt ``comfortable enough on nationwide TV to refer to any group in that manner suggests that any progress he has made on race is relative.''

SINSULL - There's no meaning under God's heaven that I could give the term "white niggers" that would make it "acceptable" to most people. I'm not sure what he's talking about either. But I do suspect that the Senator himself was trying to make some kind of point that seemed acceptable and valuable to him...in other words, he wasn't consciously being nasty when he said it, in his own terms.

That's what I'm curious about. What was he actually thinking?

I doubt that any of us will ever know, since the media reaction (and public reaction) to this is liable to be hysterical, to say the least.

I am not gonna speculate on what he meant. I just wonder.

We're narrowing it down on "shite"...I believe it's primarily a British expression which is gaining popularity in other places now, due to talk forums similar to this one.

Anyway...what I can't understand is why you and Stackly don't both join Mudcat officially, instead of just posting as GUESTS all the time. Then you could PM (private message) insults to each other, and the rest of us could arrange a blind date for you guys at some Mudcat event in the coming year.

Then I could PM you too, and we could discuss socialism (the pros and cons of it) ad nauseum, without having to waste energy with all these grudge matches you have going with Stackly, Spaw, etc.

Although, would that be as much fun as what we've got happening now?...well, it was a thought anyway.

Hey, MAV...

Hmmm...well, words in themselves can trigger some pretty hot reactions from people. As we have all discovered.

Best not to be too hasty in reacting to them. It would be interesting to know exactly what the Senator meant, and what he was thinking when he said that. I can think of a number of possible angles, some of them entirely contradictory of each other, but I am not gonna go into it.

I have some friends, perfectly nice people, who were severely harassed at the US border by American customs officials. They were on their way from Canada to a musical event in New York State, I believe it was.

I have no idea why these particular customs officials picked on Don and Caroline and their kids. Don and Caroline are perfectly harmless and mild people, who have never caused any trouble to anyone that I know of.

I suspect those customs guards were just in a lousy mood that day, or maybe they were in a mood to exert power over someone...the "little Hitler" complex.

At any rate, they humiliated Don and Caroline, bullied them, searched their vehicle meticulously for 3 hours or so, and repeatedly referred to them as "white trash".

How about that, eh? I'm sure their intentions were somewhat nastier than Senator Byrd's, but they no doubt felt quite justified. Don and Caroline were turned back at the border...for being "white trash", since no other reason could be found to refuse them entry to the land of the free and the home of the brave.

By the way, Canadian border officials can be real bastards on occasion too, so I'm not saying you've got a monopoly on them down there...

This just in,

from the Grand Imperial Wizard of the Senate..... ======================================================== SENATOR BYRD: 'THERE ARE WHITE NIGGERS'

Senator Robert Byrd [D-WV] stunned a national television audience on Sunday when he used the term "white niggers" during an interview.

MORE

Byrd, who early in his career was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, used the term on FOX NEWS SUNDAY when asked about the state of race relations in America by host Tony Snow.

"They are much, much better than they've ever been in my lifetime," Byrd said. "I think we talk about race too much. I think those problems are largely behind us... I just think we talk so much about it that we help to create somewhat of an illusion. I think we try to have good will. My old mom told me, 'Robert, you can't go to heaven if you hate anybody.' We practice that." Then Byrd warned: "There are white niggers. I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time; I'm going to use that word.

"We just need to work together to make our country a better country, and I'd just as soon quit talking about it so much." ======================================================== Senator Byrd, "Yes I understand under their clothes they are black all over" (cut to commercial)

Wasn't George Wallace a Klan democrat too?

And how about Earnest "Fritz" Hollings (current Senator SC) who put the Klan flag up over the SC Capitol while governor in the early 60s?

Funny how it takes Ashcroft and W to end racial profiling, where was your hero and Reno on this one for eight years?

So what would be the standard rate for tipping the president? I think Clinton was setting it kinda high... after all, he was asking what, $200k just for a night in his hotel? And as I understand, he wasn't even offering mints on the pillow. I mean, the pardons were nice, but they sure weren't mints.

Hmmm... Straight percentage tips would be hard to figure. Percentage of your salary? Percentage of his? Amount the national debt was lowered/raised? How about percentage of distance hemlines raise during his administration? I'll support that. We need more men in Hi-Water style pants.

How 'bout we just teach him to actually pay attention to his teleprompter, send him through a college level speech course, and call it a day?

Hmmmm...now, let's see. Anti-American? Does being against G.W. make someone anti-American? I don't think so. Just anti-Bush or maybe anti-Republican. Of course, both the Republicans and the Democrats are under the false illusion that they are all that is truly American.

Not true. The country did fine without them at one time, and would be better off without them now. Ask Crazy Horse about that. Ask any Native American who has not forgotten...

However, people, be advised that Bush-tipping is fraught with danger. You risk being wrestled to the ground (or even shot) by a bunch of very unsympathetic secret service men (who are simply doing their job). You also risk being bored to death by the media indepth reports that follow the incident for days afterward.
