Subject: RE: Lyr Req: BUACHAILL AN EIRNE From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 03 Mar 01 - 07:35 AM It wasn't Angelo who asked the question last time; odd how queries seem to come in clumps, though, isn't it? Perhaps the track has been getting a lot of airplay recently. Incidentally, Alison, do you have any thoughts on the Éirne/ Éireann question? The Malcolm |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: BUACHAILL AN EIRNE From: GUEST,Angelo Date: 04 Mar 01 - 12:18 PM Hi, Malcolm I believe to be exactly Angelo who asked the question last time. I'm not sure to have really understood, because my english isn't well enough. Last time you send me a lot of information about "Uamh an oir" (lyric too), but the version I listened it seems different. Anyway I put on web this version of "Uamh An Oir" as sung by Margaret Stewart. Could you listened this song and let me to find the correct version ? If you want you can find the song (mp3 or real audio, as you prefer)at this URL http://www.paolopaliaga.it/temp/uamh.htm I'm still sorry for my english (I hope I wrote right) and I'm waiting for an answer morain taing Angelo

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: BUACHAILL AN EIRNE From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 04 Mar 01 - 07:14 PM I agree with Martin in the thread Alison and Malcolm refer to, a boy from the banks of the Erne River, Buachaill ón Éirne, not Buachaill ón Éireann (which wouldn't be grammatically correct anyway). Unfortunately, the unofficial Clannad site is riddled with errors. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: BUACHAILL AN EIRNE From: Áine Date: 04 Mar 01 - 07:51 PM Dear Angelo, You can check the lyrics I have on my website here for Buachaill ón Éirne. And I even believe that our Philippa has looked them over and OK'd them. *BG* And Philippa is quite correct about the errors on the Clannad site -- some of which can be very amusing... All the best, Áine |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: BUACHAILL AN EIRNE From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 04 Mar 01 - 09:09 PM Thanks to Philippa and Áine for that clarification; unfortunately, I didn't find the text on Áine's site last time round. It would have saved confusion if I had! Angelo: were you "Skye Laurent" in that previous thread, then? (I'm a little confused! The thread was Boys of Ireland, as I mentioned earlier.) Margaret Stewart's recording of "Uamh an Oir", as you have on your website, is the one that I gave you the text for (Lyr/Chords Req: gaelic songs) : it was transcribed by Morag MacLeod, one of the greatest living experts on Scottish Gaelic song, and the words are certainly right; several times, though, phrases are repeated, which may be confusing until you get used to the sounds of it. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: BUACHAILL AN EIRNE From: GUEST,Angelo Date: 05 Mar 01 - 04:07 PM Thanks everybody, Aine: I've bookmarked your website, it's beautiful Philippa thanks to last information you gave me Malcom thanks to your patient tiaraidh an drasda Angelo ------------ p.s. I'm not really able to speak gaelic language even if I like its sound very mauch and I'm trying to sing some gaelic song. I've got only a little dictionary "Italian - Gaidhlig", very few words and basic sentences. What do you think about the possibility to learn Irish on the Web? I think the problem is the pronunciation of words. Some days ago I downloaded "a beginner's guide to Irish Gaelic Pronunciation" as someone suggested in this forum, and I'm listening the songs I have, to understand the sound of any single word. Well I don' t want take our time yet. Let me to know your opinion. beannachd leibh |
