I notice an allusion to the song Seven Deadly Sins under the thread for Seven Drunken Nights. I sing the five verses that are sung by the Dubliners, but I want the other two verses to make this song complete. Does anybody out there know this entire song? The verses don't necessarily follow the tradtional seven deadly sins. The first verse is:

Some say that kissing's a sin
But tell me how can this be true
For kissing has been in this world
Since the very first time there were two.

Now if it wasn't legal,
Then the lawyers they would sue
And the prisons would be full of folk
Who had a kiss or two.
And if they didn't like it
Then away the girls would run.
And if there wasn't plenty,
Then the pilfer would get none.

The next verses are about gambling, swearing, smoking and drinking. Can anybody help?

Just thought I would ask Rebecca's question again. It was never answered in the sequent discussion which got more into the Seven Drunken Nights. What are to other two deadly sins or were there ever two other ones? Were the Dubliners playing with us?

This seems to be a version of "Some say that kissings a sin". There are a couple of old versions on my website in Scarce Songs file at:

Alistair Brown has recorded "The Seven Deadly Sins" on The Swan Necked Valve. It's sung from the point of view of a husband coming home to a wife who practices a different one each night.

I listened to the Alistair Brown recording. He only sings of five. Lust, gluttony, pride, covetousness, and sloth.
