Heard a rumour that JohnB was mentioned on CBC's Basic Black re. noseflutes - winning a competition? (Border morris tunes with noseflutes?? - maybe not)

Any details John?

Rana

It's totally true Rana. Arthur Black had a competition to give 4 nose flutes to 5 different groups, based on a written submission. Mine was the first one that he read out on Saturday. I will post the whole thing from home. We now have to make a recording of the group and send it back to him to play accross North America on CBC radio. Being mentioned on the Mudcat is an even bigger thrill though. JohnB

Just heard the Realaudio clip of the noseflute competition - I can just picture Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn leading a courtly dance accompanied by their trusty noseflute chamber ensemble.

Folks will have to listen to

to know what I'm talking about!

Cheers Rana

Well the nose flutes arrived yesterday in the middle of the snowstorm. Well done FED EX, the only set of footprints down our driveway. We were just making supper when the phone rang, it was Chris, the producer of the show. He tried for about 10 minutes to teach me how to play the thing, then said, this is too funny, I will phone you back from the studio, as he wanted to tape it. My wife got the hang of it from about the second snort, I however was a different matter. It took Chris a lot of patience and about another 10 minutes before I got the proper note out of the thing, it is a good job I was using the Green one. I guess they may play some of it next Saturday. We now have to change my initial tune and plans, as the contest has rules. ie 4 people and ONLY nose flutes for a min. two minute tune. This is going to take some work. JohnB

Damn. I'm either going to have to go back to Canada to hear it over the radio, or I'm going to have to get a sound card for my computer.

Hmmmm..... tough choice. Which one, which one???

Congratulations, JohnB

Carol
