Looking for the name of a song a fellow I new used to sing I remember the lines: Were you going away with no word of farewell, will there be not a trace left behind? I could have loved you better didn't mean to be unkind, you know that was the last thing on my mind. You had reasons a plenty for going, this I know

I would appreciate any help you can give me.

The song is called "Last Thing On My Mind" Written and performed by Tom Paxton I believe Words follow

It's a lesson too late for the learning Made of sand, made of sand In the wink of an eye my soul was turning In your hand, in your hand

Are you going away With no word of farewell Will there be not a trace left behind? Well, I could have loved you better, Didn't mean to be unkind You know that was the last thing on my mind

Underneath our feet the subways a-rumblin' Under ground, under ground And the wheels on the highway are turning 'Round and 'round, 'round and 'round

Are you going away ...

You had reasons a-plenty for goin', This I know, this I know. And the weeds have been steadily growin'; Please don't go, please don't go.

Are you goin' away ...

As I lie in my bed in the mornin', Without you, without you, Every song in my heart dies a-bornin', Without you, without you.

Are you goin' away ...

According to The Tom Paxton Anthology (1971 United Artists Music Group, New York, NY), the last two verses in the Digitrad are transposed. The book indicates that the verse beginning "You've got reasons aplenty" should be verse 3 and the one beginning "As I lie in my bed" should be last.
