For those who remeber, there was a song from the movie Jaws" where, after they all get drunk on Quint's boat, they sung a son with the words:

SHow me the way to go home/ I'm tired and I want to go to bed/ I had a little drink about an hour ago/ and it went right to my head.

If anybody can fill in the rest of the song, I would be very appreciative.

Show me the way to go home.
I'm tired and I want to go to bed.
I had a little drink about an hour ago
And it went right to my head.
No matter where I roam,
On land or sea or foam,
You can always hear me singing my song,
Show me the way to go home.

That's the only verse I know. I remember it from one of my father's Mitch Miller albums. I think they just repeated this verse over and over again but there might be other verses.

And, for a reprise, was sung:

Direct me to the place of my abode
I'm fatigued and I wish to retire.
I hand an alcoholic beverage 60 minutes ago
And it went right to my ce-re-bel-lum
Anywhere that I direct my feet
On land or sea or atmospheric vapor
You can always hear me chanting this refrain:
Direct me to place of my abode.

Dick Greenhouse: As another songster put it, "Play that rhythmically enhanced music, melanin-deprived male person!"

I learned the same vocabularian version as you, Dick, but with the lines, "Wherever I may perambulate, On land or sea or agitated water." In any version, the best part is the cerebellum. A few lines from the song are also sung in Tennessee Williams's play _Camino Real_, along with a lot of drinking songs that I didn't recognize.

Dick,

I believe that was "Show me the way to my habitual abode ..."

I often hear it combined with two other songs:

I want a beer just like the beer that pickled dear old dad
It was a beer, and the only beer that daddy ever had
A good old fashioned beer with lots of foam
It took ten men to carry daddy home
Oh, I want a beer just like the beer that pickled dear old dad

and

They had to carry Harry to the ferry
They had to carry Harry to the shore
The reason that they had to carry Harry to the ferry
Was that Harry couldn't carry any more!Skoal!!

The song I remember from Jaws is " Fairwell you Ladies of Spain" !

Indicate direction to my abode
I'm fatigued and I wish to retire
I had an alcoholic beverage 60 minutes ago
And it's gone right to my cerebral cortex
No matter where I perambulate
O'or land or sea or effervessing liquid
You will always find me humming this melody
Indicate direction to my abode.

Ok so you have to get a fair bit of syncapation in on some of the lines, but we quite often end up shuffling about to it ( lets face it you're generally not going to be sober when you start singing things like this ) and we can pretend we can dance at these points!

Happy paddling!

TTFN M'Lady P.

Same song as "Show Me the Way to Go Home"

"Direct me the way to my residence,
I'm fatigued and I wanna retire...
Had a little nip 'bout an hour ago and it
went right to my sacroiliac!
Wherever I may perambulate,
On Land or Sea or Atmospheric Places,
You can always find me croonin' this tune,
Direct me the way to my residence!"

My MIL, who is the definitive reference for mid-20th-century pop, says it goes like this (accent marks indicate stressed beats):

'Indicate the 'route to my a'bode
I'm fa'tigued and I de'sire to re'tire
I 'had a sip of 'nectar sixty 'minutes a'go
And it 'went right 'to my 'ce-re-'bel-lum
Wher'ever 'I may per'ambulate
On 'land or 'sea or 'at-mos-pher-ic 'va-por
You can 'always 'hear me 'chanting this '*melody
'Indicate the 'route to my a'bode

I was told somewhere that it was Robert Shaws idea to sing 'Spanish Ladies'. I'd love to think it was true.

My dad always sang this version while I was supposed to sing the original--but I always burst out laughing...

Indicate the way to my abode
I'm fatigued and I wish to retire
Had a little nip a sixty minutes ago
And it went right to my cerubellum
Wherever i may perambulate
Over land or sea or atmospheric vapor
You will always hear me croonin' this melody
Indicate the way to my abode

OK, slightly different:

indicate the route to my habitual abode
I'm exhausted and I wish to retire
I had some alcocol 60 minutes ago
And it went right to my cerebellum
Wherever I may perambulate
On land or see or atmospher' evaporate
you'll always hear me humming this melody
Indicate the route to my habitual abode

And you have to go down to the bass on the "ce-re-bell-um" part.

Another variant ending, learned from my parents in he 1940s:

...You will always hear me singing this song --
Nobody knows
How dry I am,
And nobody knows
How to show me the way to go home.
