As there have been no additions to the Mudcat Photo Pages since October 2000, is it safe to conclude that the page is now defunct?

I, along with quite a few others have submitted photo's since that date but none have been posted. After such a time should we still expect them to be posted or give it up as a bad job.

Not trying to rattle anyone's chain here, I'd just like to know what's occurring?

Cheers

Bugsy

Hi "Sis"

Pene Azul was doing it, but he's off and about now so as an offshoot of the Christmas album photos, we started this thread which kat is monitoring.

You, two! What I'd like to know is, if Spaw is the evil twin of us and I always thought he was a he, where does that leave me...we're NOT talking tipl...er...I mean triplets, here, are we? **BG**

Bugsy, if ya don't mind sending them, again, either to Banjer or me, we'll see that they get put up on the Mudcat Photoloft site. There are links to email, etc. in the thread Spaw so kindly linked.

T'anks,

kat

I think Pene Azul is gone from Mudcat, and anything sent to him is gone as well. (He probably has an e-mail account stuffed with gigabytes of photos, if he hasn't just deleted them.) Too bad - I enjoyed his contributions here as well as all the work he did.

I suspect the resource pages will stay the way they are either a)until the next ice age, or b) until Max deletes them. That is, unless he gives someone else the job.

I see that alison has already started a thread in the Help Forum, but I added another comment to it. Jeri may be right though.....probably is.

Ok Kat'I'll have to find the photo's and scan them again but I'll get onto it after the weekend.

Seems a shame though that we already have the resources pages and have to use photoloft as well.

Bugsy, if you have the old email you sent out, in your files, you could just forward it to one of us. Of course, you probably are much more efficient than me and keep your email files cleaned up, instead of saving every little scrap.:-)

I guess I'll send Max a PM...if he gives me the go ahead, maybe I could help out on the Resource pages until Pene comes back, if he does, etc. Might as well be here as Photoloft, although the Photoloft is kind of neat because people can put up any and all they want in their own albums, so maybe it is just a good morphing over, eh?

It is too bad, because bbc did such a good job for so long, and then Pene took it over. He did great for a while, then just dropped of the edge of the earth.

Pene Azul seems to be in the Greater Philly area, as he appeared on the Radio Show more than once. From comments made, I think Max may know more than he is saying about Pene's absence, but he won't say.

The last time I remember Pene being around was the Live Iron Brewery Show......when Joe Offer, Mick and who else? were in Philly. How long ago was that? Numerous e mails and Personal Messages have not had any effect.

Time for a change?

Well, we'll figure out something. Pene did a wonderful job of re-programming all the resource pages in ColdFusion, but I wonder if somebody else will have to learn ColdFusion to keep it going. I'm kind of in favor of keeping things relatively simple here, so most parts of Mudcat can be maintained by volunteers who may not have astounding HTML ability (like myself, for example...). We do have some volunteers like Jeri and Jon with astounding abilities, but Joe and some of the JoeClones don't fit that category.
If we depend too heavily on programmers like Pene or put too heavy a burden on Max, then things get bogged down when the programmers have to go out and make a living.
I don't think it's a good idea to bug Max about it. He knows there's a need to figure out a way to update Mudcat Resources, and he'll get to it when he can.

You know, if there's a need for an immediate solution, somebody can volunteer like bbc did, and do the work on a Web page they control. All the information is available in Mudcat Resources, and can be transferred to another Website very easily. It won't be quite as slick as ColdFusion, but it should work.
I'll be glad to post a link to it in the Site Map-Index. Anybody ready to volunteer?

I don't think much is needed in the way of expertise Alison but as far as I can gather, this one is very time consuming and is a big commitment.

The biggest problem the way I see it is the volume of requests to add and change information held in the resources. The ideal solution would be a user updatable one but that would need to be hosted on a site which allows server side processing on top of the development time.

As for me, although I have time, I'm not in a position to offer to host anything at the moment because of uncertainty with ISPs.

Anyway, I guess we need some form of statement from Max before any of us rushes off and trys to create something.

Jon

Can a general statement ("Mudcat Resource Information last updates XX XX XXXX") be posted on a page that one would go to, before clicking further into the resources, until something else is worked out? Can this be done just by changing the URL the link to the resources sends people to, from QuickLinks?

Perhaps it could click to a thread like this with updates on what is happening, and then in the thread could be another link that goes to the resources. At least then people would know that if they try tio use an address and get no response, it's because the address is probably no good. It would free them up to try other means of reaching people.

And can the copy about submission, and link to Pene Azul, be removed and something else inserted that reflects that the resources section is under re-construction?

Alison, do these address your concerns?

Joe, when bbc announced she was dropping the website, I started copying files. I only got through the B's on the photo page, and it took a couple of hours.

Maintaining the pages is a lot of work for one person, and the backlog on this is probably tremendous. I'd volunteer to help, but I'd hate to say I'd be willing to do the whole thing (if Max were looking for someone to volunteer, that is) and bite off more than I can chew. I think (again, if Max is interested) we could handle the pages the same way we handle the rest of Mudcat.

Volunteers with HTML experience could be given access to the server. There could be a link on the page to a mail group to send e-mail to multiple recipients. There could also be a web-based e-mail account that all volunteers had access to - sort of a "holding area" for photos and other information.

Volunteers need not be administrators. Some of us JoeClones have experience with HTML, but there are quite a few folks around here who are NOT JoeClones, who do as well. Some are way beyond me in terms of web design.

If Max is interested in keeping the Resource Pages alive, I believe there may be a problem finding one person to do it all, but no problem finding people who are willing to share the work with others. Also, there would be no worries that that the one person responsible might decide to quit, and the whole process of finding a replacement would begin again.

jeri, that sounds liek a very sensible way to go about it. I ahd no idea it took that much time and would also not want to commit to being an "only" for taking care of it. Thanks,

kat
