Good name, Menzze! I like it a lot! Thanks for letting us have the fun in helping!

I forgot to tell you that when my sister and I needed a name for perfoming, it was the Mudcat who helped us come up with "Folkfyre." We even have T-shirts with the logo of it which I designed printed on them!

I am sorry that you may be sad on your birthday while honouring your friend, Heinze. It is good of you, though, and I am sure it will please him and his family. May your birthday go well, otherwise, and bring you a happy and prosperous year.

I want to thank everybody who helped us with this unbelieveable output of names from all my heart.You are FANTASTICAnd as well thanks from the rest of the band who has found its name tonight.

I've copied all the names you have posted here and we fought our way through them two hours ago. Rune fire was leading the longest attacked by Pendragon's Pipes and Quercus Reborn. None of them made in the end. No, we finally came up with a melange between the listed ones here and something we added and the result was:

Thanks also for the warmth and sympathy I feel here. My friend who died on monday, Heinze, he loved celtic folk music and played a little guitar himself. His funeral is fixed for friday now(it's a bit confused at the moment). It will be a strange birthday for me but I have to go there and play and sing some last tunes for him since I'm the only one of the band who's got the time to go. I'm on the dole at the moment and the others have to work.

Hi rest of the world,
some sad news first:

a friend of mine died on monday in the middle of the road by a heart attack at the age of 49. His funearl will take part on thursday therefore we changed our ususal rehearsal date from thursday to wednesday evening because we all want to go to his funeral to give him some last tunes for the way he is on now and I think we won't be in the mood to rehearse after that.

This means we either will decide for a name tonight or leave it open 'til next week thursday. I will return around 7.00pm local time here to see what you think about it.
BTW I've just counted the results and came up with 89 names For shure quantity not necessarily means quality but to me it seems nearly unbelieveable what you all have done for me. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU

Hi lads,
I've survived the meal last night. in fact it was better than I expected it to be. Had a wonderful duck on vegetables. As I said , I never tried that Thai/Nam stuff before, but I'm shure I'll go there again.
Amos, you've not already made it but I like your Pendragon Pipes. Menzze and the Boys was a fun suggestion a friend of mine made two weeks ago, but it sounds too ridiculuos for the rest of the band.

Some people I know had a band called "drumnadrochit" - they found the name by sticking a pin in a map of Scotland! Seriously, though, you might consider an acronym such as Gaffa (good and folky for all), although I might point out that Six Hands In Tempo have given up gigging as a unit!

I had a folk group in college called "Captain Come and the Seamen" (don't laugh, WE GOT A LOT OF GIGS). But you might try one I'd thought of for Germans, "Blau Rauch en Speigelen" or "Blue Smoke and Mirrors" in bad german. If it's a really bad band, just go with "Blue Smoke" which in West Virginia means whats connects where you wuz to where you is. (Kinda like that old saying "Say it with Flares")

I make a promise to all you catters:

If we 'll find our new name from here the one who'll have suggested it will be invited to the first concert of the band with it's new name. This might bring some problems if the one is from overseas and we're in the south of Germany here. But time will show.....

Hello friends

For about 15 years I had a band called OAKTREE: We played Irish & Scottish folk music, music from Bretagne and some of our own songs. The whole thing was pretty traditional. The band split 6 years ago and I took a nearly 6 years break. Half a year ago it was time to start again, which turned out to be more difficult than I'd imagined. I really live in the country and musicians don't grow here like in big cities.

Anyway, I finally made it to get some nice guys together and we're rehearsing for three months now once a week. We're still doing Celtic folk music but left the mere traditional way and added drums, electric guitar, bass and keybord.

What we're looking for now is a name for the band. I believe there must be enough fantasy between all you mudcatters for at least a thousand names. Give us your purposes, they're all welcome.
