Help!

There's a song that keeps running through my brain. I think it was a John Miles song---

the only thing I can recall are the words:

Leanther with the gentle name...

For some strange reason, I think it was called the Montana Song, but I can't find out for sure. Any help or suggestions you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am REALLY frustrated here......I know Leander was a minor Greek mythological figure, but I can't find anything anywhere! Not even in my hardbound encyclopedia! All I can find on line are references to Leander, Texas. "Prairie Song" and Bill Staines didn't help either. HELP!!

Being turned into a swan was the fate of L-some-thing-else...not Leanther. Or maybe it was Zeus as a swan who seduced Leia. I have a hard time keeping all these falsehoods straight!!

HA! I found it! I was right about Leander being in Greek mythology, wrong about the swan thing.

LEANDER (m) "lion man" (Greek). In Greek mythology Leander was the lover of Hero. Every night he swam across a strait to meet her, but he eventually drowned in a storm. When Hero saw his dead body she threw herself into the waters and perished.

But even so, the lyrics requested are for Leanther, not Leander. AAaaarrrrggghhhh!

If Leanther is a person's name, it must be a very rare one. The Maryland Chancery papers mention a Leanther Hughes back in 1810. This genealogical page mentions a Leanther Lord born in 1790. And that's all Google could find! (A few other instances of "leanther" seem to be misspellings of "leather".)

That Leanther is a variant of Leander is probably a pretty good guess.

I couldn't turn up any more recordings of a "Montana Song" than the 2 Amos listed.

Even "with * gentle name" turns up only 6 results with Google, none of them relevant

Who is this "John Miles" that our GUEST mentions? AMG mentions only one, and he's a British heavy metal rocker, and doesn't seem to be a likely candidate.

Anyway, how likely is it that our GUEST is still looking for this song 15 months later?

I think you're right here, #. "Leantha with the fragile name" is pretty close to what was requested.
