Subject: Lyr Add: I LOVED A LASS (Mundy-Cowger)
From: Allan C.

I have performed this song quite a few times and folks seem to like it as much as I do, so, I thought I would post the lyrics and ask a question about it. I learned it from a Joe & Eddie album I once had. However, I have not been able to discover the author. Can anyone help with that?

WHEN WE WERE VERY YOUNG

I loved a lass so long ago
When we were very young.
Her mother and her father did agree
That if she gave her heart to me
She could be my own.

I bought a silver ring for her.
I built a house of stone.
And when she came to look at it with me,
I told her that this house would always be
A place to call her home.

Bridge:
We would laugh and play all day.
Young folks are that way.

And in a year our son was born,
A year and just a day.
And he was such a kind and gentle one,
He fell in love the same as we had done,
When we were very young,

When we were very young.

The song is called "I Loved A Lass" is on the Joe & Eddie "Coast To Coast" album (GP Crescendo GNP-96). the liner notes say it was written by Bill Mundy who was their first musical director. The center disc, however, lists it as "Mundy-Cowger". I have no information on what role Cowger may have had in the song, probably an arranger. the same center disc also credits Raim with "Water Is Wide" and Tyson & Fricker with "Makes A Long Time Man Feel Bad", so there is a little accuracy/credibility problem with some of the information.

Thanks, Rich! I was a little iffy about the correct title as well. (This would explain why I was only able to find Winnie the Pooh references in the net searches!) Glad to have that cleared up. The album you mention is the only one of theirs I ever had and was where I first heard some of the songs that I now sing.

Mm-m-m-m...I'm thinking that it might be time that I got around to phoning a former singing partner who has all of their LP's to see if I can get some tapes or something...The only CD available does not have some of my own favorites on it.
