Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Jesse Fuller From: Deckman Date: 12 Mar 01 - 06:47 PM I met Jesse Fuller just twice in my life. The first time was at hoot in the University district, of Seattle, in 1958. That's NINETEEN FIFTY EIGHT ... NOT EIGHTEEN FIFTY EIGHT. (in 1858 I was still singing songs from the civil war). I was a scared little kid with a new Martin guitar, and all I knew about Jesse was that he was a legend in his own time. I spent that whole evening sitting about two inches from his incredible music box machine. He was very kind to me, and answered all my questions ... I'm sure I was quite a nuisance. It was just a year later that Don Firth and Walt Robertson and I all ended up at the "BLIND LEMON" in Berkeley, Ca. This was a very populiar nightspot. It was Jesse's night to perform, but he spotted Walt in the crowd and invited him up on stage. I was overwhelmed with several things: the incredible POWER of these two guys and their music, as well as the obvious mutual respect they had for each other. I was just starting out in music and I was learning daily. That particuliar evening is clearly etched in my memory. CHEERS, deckman |

Subject: Happy Birthday Jesse Fuller From: GUEST,Mike Billo Date: 12 Mar 01 - 04:16 PM With the recent threads about "San Francisco Bay Blues" and the footdella, I thought you might like to know that today, March 12, Jesse Fuller was born in 1896. The great man still serves as an inspiration to me still after all these years. |
