Just curious to find out if anyone knows who sings this on the "Youngs" frozen food advert on uk tv.

I doubt if it will change my life radically if I don't find out, but you never know..........

cheers

bill

There was a discussion of this very thing on an earlier thread, I'm sure of it. It was some months ago.

Whoever he is, he does a good job of it.

Annnnddd... it's on THIS thread. But since I've never been able to do blue clickys, having never tried to learn, (I'm lazy) I'll do this instead.

I think it may be Alex Glasgow. There is an extant recording of him singing it and whoever it is, is giving the proper geordie pronounciation of the word "boat" which suggest a native speaker.

Sadly they have dropped the good verses about drinking!

Yes the previous thread was started by Geoff and we thought it was Graham Pirt but apparently not.

Tom McConville is a leading contender in my book

There is an annual publication called "Tele Tunes" which contains this sort of info. I'll try & remember to look it up tomorrow. If I forget, any decent reference library should stock it.

I can recognise Alex Glasgow's voice at 1000 paces but have not seen the ad. I will start viewing intently. GB

I'm torn between Alex Glasgow and Bob Davenport, so it's probably neither!

The singer is Alex Glasgow. A recording is available on a compilation of TV tunes. Let me know if you want the details of the CD, I didn't have a pen on when I looked it up, and was in a hurry.

Paul.

I haven't heard the advert, not living in the UK, but would recognize it instantly if it's the Alex Glasgow version. The same song/singer were also used as the theme tune for the notable BBC series of the same name many, many years ago.

It doesn't sound like Bob Davenport (just where is he these days?) or Tom McConville to me. Tom sings a different version, but when someone's paying I'm sure he'd sing ANY version! JJ

Sorry to disagree with you Greyeyes, but I emailed Youngs a couple of days ago and I've just received the reply. According to their marketing dept. it's by someone called Mick Sands, which leaves me non the wiser, anyone else?

cheers

"Tele Tunes" is a highly reputable, reliable source. I would be more inclined to believe them than the company's marketing dept. who may just not have known, and made it up rather than finding out. Particularly as several people had already guessed it might be Alex Glasgow.

cheers(feeling well and truly fobbed off)

P.S. who can you trust if you can't trust the advertising department.

Sounds like Alex Glasgow to me.

Never, ever, trust anyone involved with PR or advertising, they're all professional liars by trade and inclination!
