Subject: NOW: Celtic Tides on Bravo (USA) From: Jeri Date: 15 Mar 01 - 09:01 PM Short shelf life thread. They just got done with a show on Irish music and dance, and now Celtic Tides has started. Looks like it might be good. |

Subject: RE: NOW: Celtic Tides on Bravo (USA) From: katlaughing Date: 15 Mar 01 - 11:15 PM Didn't see this, hadn't looked at the tv, then got on there just as Celtic Tides was ending! How was it? |

Subject: RE: NOW: Celtic Tides on Bravo (USA) From: Matt_R Date: 15 Mar 01 - 11:21 PM I was grutching and groaning! I saw it in the TV book this morning...but alas, I have no such channel. |

Subject: RE: NOW: Celtic Tides on Bravo (USA) From: Allan C. Date: 15 Mar 01 - 11:44 PM I, too, didn't know it was going to be on until I found it as it was well in progress. Nice show, though. Got to put some faces with the names and learned a little as well. The good news is that it will appear again at 5 PM (EST). BRAVO is planning quite a few events for Saturday afternoon which will include the drama, "Hanging Gale" (1-5 PM) which describes a family's plight during 1846; a show called "Emerald Shoes" (6 PM) about the history of Irish dance up to the present; and, yes, "Riverdance" (8 PM) |

Subject: RE: NOW: Celtic Tides on Bravo (USA) From: Jeri Date: 16 Mar 01 - 08:30 AM Too fast - I wish they'd had more of the music on its own, but it was mostly talking. (Frankly, I would have liked the interviews and music, and not as much narration.) The Rankin Family, the Chieftans, Mary Jane Lammond, Capercaille, Maire Brennan, Altan, John Allan Cameron, Lorena McKennit, Ashley MacIsaac, Natalie MacMaster, Dougie McClean, Seamus Eagan, Mary Black...too many people to comfortably fit in one hour. (Sorry for any misspellings.) |

Subject: RE: NOW: Celtic Tides on Bravo (USA) From: harpmolly Date: 16 Mar 01 - 01:23 PM Matt: If it's any comfort to you, there's a companion book that goes with the show (I found it at Powell's a few months ago and snatched it up). It's really cool, and I'd recommend it. :) At the same time I also found a book about women and the current Celtic scene, which included an interview with Kate Rusby! Woohoo! I'm in like Flynn! M |

Subject: RE: NOW: Celtic Tides on Bravo (USA) From: Matt_R Date: 16 Mar 01 - 01:27 PM Ooooooh La Belle Rusby!!! I've been having a Kate Rusby party in my bedroom, since I was one year ago this week that I bought Sleepless so I though I'd celebrate. I'm weird, I know. |

Subject: RE: NOW: Celtic Tides on Bravo (USA) From: Matt_R Date: 16 Mar 01 - 01:58 PM Yep, Molly, I have it alright!! I'd have to say my favorite track is "The Soldier & The Queen". Love that cello. I sing a lot of her songs, too. Especially "Cowsong"! |

Subject: RE: NOW: Celtic Tides on Bravo (USA) From: harpmolly Date: 16 Mar 01 - 02:13 PM I don't think I can choose a favorite track. Both "Recruited Collier" and "The Lorry Ride" are lots of fun to sing, though. :) And I'm learning "R.C." on the harp, which is pretty fun. M |
