Subject: Ralph McTell concert review From: GUEST,murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 20 Mar 01 - 08:08 AM I saw Ralph McTell on Sun (21 Mar.) perform at the Clarendon Hotel in Katoomba (NSW, Australia for the uninitiated). It was the first time I have seen him in person and it was a great concert. I wonder if any Syndey Mudcatters were there. I didn't see anyone sporting a "Mudcat T-shirt" but neither was I. Perhaps we should have Mudcat badges. Anyway, he did a lot of new stuff that I hadn't heard on any CDs. If he was going to choose the name of an old-time bluesman, he should have choosen "Blake" instead of "McTell" because I think his blues style is closer to the latter. Murray |
Subject: RE: Ralph McTell concert review From: BobP Date: 20 Mar 01 - 12:47 PM Murray, you are a fortunate soul. We've tried without success to get the Traveling Man to visit us out here in folk music Siberia (NE Illinois). His UK people say we have to get his US label involved, but the suits at his us label say: (exact quote), "He's big over there, not here". So I think, Now who's fault could that be? Anyway, it helps to know the years haven't diminished his astonishing talent. Thanks for the report.

Subject: RE: Ralph McTell concert review From: alison Date: 20 Mar 01 - 10:17 PM Murray.... I saw him the last time he played the Clarendon... and he was fantastic..... I almost went this time... but St Pat's was a busy weekend.... and I though sticking a drive to Katoomba onn the end of it was too much........... if he hasn't already done it... he's playing "the Basement" sometime soon .. I think.... slainte alison |
