I just watched "Neighbours" (Australian Soap Opera about...er...a group of people who live on the same street for those of you who don't know of it - crap yet compulsive). It was the Kirk/Kennedy wedding. The Scottish uncle "played" Mairi's Wedding on the bagpipes, the couple left the church to a pipe band playing the Skye Boat Song, and the groom sang "Will Ye Go Lassie Go" as a traditional family wedding song at the reception. I now feel totally justified in watching this on a daily basis while I eat my lunch as I can chalk it up to "educational viewing".

The next thing they'll do is release it as a single and we'll be hearing it in the charts

I watched it too and the tears rolled and no it wasn't Drew's singing in fact no it Wasn't Drew singing!! Reminded me of our wedding although we did only have the one piper but he did pipe us all the way from the registry office to the pub with some fifty guests in procession-were you there Nutty? And of course being the final night of Whitby folk week we sang Will ye go while the alternative garland was passed around the Tap and Spile. Everyone say ah!

Matt, is that to look at or to listen to?
I was somewhat underwhelmed by the portrayal of scots people! what a load of crap! I thought that it was actually rather derisory, and poorly researched! obviously the writers are not visitors to the Mudcat!

To listen to, not to look at! They were another one of those groups who met me when I first started listening to pop music. I was instantly taken with them. And I never saw what they looked like until a month after I first heard them. I remember gushing to my parents about this cool song I heard by this group called "The Spice Girls"...

People people people! Can I suggest that an addiction to Neighbours needs quick and serious treatment? maybe taking up the tuba or something. Or Pacman.

It's all crap. Australia isn't really like that. No - it's like this: kangaroos EVERYWHERE (jeez, couldn't sleep last night for the kangaroos bouncing on the bonnet of the car) and merinos crossing the harbour bridge.

Callie

Thanks, Callie, good to get some info from the horse's kangaroo's mouth... isn't the Mudcat wonderful?

I did catch the wonderful Drew serenading his beloved, but only because the children were watching it, honest! Wouldn't you think they'da found someone who could sing for him to mime to? :0)

No, the whole point is that he was convinced he couldn't sing, which is why he got Harold to coach him, and it wouldn't have worked dramatically if he'd suddenly turned out to be good at it after all, and...

Whoops.

Well, alright, I had to keep up with one soap after they stopped showing Home and Away...

Malcolm, I'm shocked! I see I should watch the whole thing before commenting, or miss the dramatic nuances that you so eloquently describe...

Well, I work at home, you see, and regularly watch children's programmes out of one eye while working with the other; never was able to do just one thing at a time.  I also have an over-developed "suspension of disbelief" factor.  In the end, Digimon and Beowulf aren't as different as one might at first think...

No, it's "The Men Who Changed Football", apparantly.  Regrettably, most of my work is football-related at present.  What can I do?  At least I was out playing the fiddle earlier on.

Does anyone remember Billie Kennedy in neighbours singing the Red Flag? We also had Bandiera Rossa on EastEnders and Bella Ciao on an advert (can't remember which one)

Malcolm, I am so impressed! Did you by any chance notice the major continuity gaff between wedding and honeymoon? Yes, Drews long flowing locks have gone. He's got them chopped. How did he find the time? Hasn't he got better things to do after his wedding?

I too watched the Drew/Lou wedding -nearly threw up but give him 4/10 for effort. Anyway enough of these Aussie soaps -the programme to watch is David frosts Through the Keyhole where you have to guess which celebrity lives in a house like this? Lloyd Grossman then goes and gives you clues so obscure that you need a degree in lateral thinking to work them out. this confirms 2 things. 1. Being a popular figure in the world of film and television does not necessarily mean that you have good taste. 2. David Frost must be so desperate for money that even he is prepared to front this trash.

Not only did Drew have his hair cut AFTER the wedding but they announced themselves at the hotel as Mr Kirk and Miss Kennedy! I don't think they got married at all!
