Well, Barry, I figure it can't hurt to laugh, yet, as they haven't done the "do", so...to pass the time a bit, I thought I'd resurrect this old saw for you...maybe your docs haven't heard it and you can put them in stitches. :-) At any rate, I am thinking about you and wishing you well and here's that joke...you've probably heard it before...sorry**BG**...(thanks to Micca for emailing it)kat

A man brought a very limp dog into the veterinary clinic. As he lay the dog on the table, the doctor pulled out his stethoscope, placing the receptor on the dog's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, "I'm sorry, but your dog has passed away."

"What?" screamed the man. "How can you tell? You haven't done any testing on him or anything. I want another opinion!"

With that, the vet turned and left the room. In a few moments, he returned with a Labrador Retriever. The Retriever went right to work, checking the poor dead dog out thoroughly. After a considerable amount of sniffing, the Retriever sadly shook his head and said, "Bark".

The veterinarian then took the Labrador out and returned in a few moments with a cat, who also checked out the poor dog on the table.

As had his predecessors, the cat sadly shook his head and said, "Meow." He then jumped off the table and ran out of the room.

The veterinarian handed the man a bill for $600. The dog's owner went postal. "$600! Just to tell me my dog is dead? This is Outrageous!" The vet shook his head sadly and explained. "If you had taken my word for it, it would have been $50, but with the Lab work and the cat scan..."

Here's another story of misery through medical terminology: A little boy came to school, crying. The teacher asked why, and he said,"A truck ran over my dog's asshole." The teacher, surprised at this, automatically corrected the vocabulary to something less offensive and said,"You mean 'rectum', don't you?" The boy howled,"Rectum?!!? It Killed 'im!!"
(I know I'm a sick puppy, but if I tell it to my kids, they'll get in trouble at school.)

Barry? Ya laughing, yet? Okay, okay...we'll quit with the stupid jokes and just tell you, again, how much we are thinking of you and wishing you well.

Take care, looks like you have lots of dates to look forward to...so many Mudcatters....so many songs....so many festivals!

Good Morning, Barry! We are looking at a slice of Spring out here in Wyoming, today. The sun is high and bright, the air soft and gentle, no harsh winds, and they say it will climb into the 60's!

I'll bet the little jonquils I left behind in Mystic are pushing up, though, so we've a ways to go here to reach Spring.

Hope this finds you in good spirits and that you are able to walk out of there, new liver intact, within a short time.

Barry, I offer this as serial amusement; I'll post the other verses from time to time. Join us soon!

A SAILOR'S YARN
(From A Nonesense Anthology By J. J Roche, Circa 1890 Adapted by Charlie Ipcar, 1993 Tune: after Whup Jamboree/Johnie Cock)

(Spoken) This is the tale 'twas told to me,
By a battered and shattered son of the sea:
To me and my messmate, Silas Green,
When I was a guileless young marine.

'Twas on the good ship Fly-ing Fish
All in the Chi-na Seas;
With the wind a-lee, and the cap-stan free,
We set sail for Ca-diz,
We set sail for Ca-diz.

Said Captain Poggie on the deck
To the Mate on the mizzen hatch,
"How heads our gallant ship tonight?
Shall we wind the larboard watch?"...

The mate drew forth his compass rose
And tapped it on the rail,
"Why, she heads to the E. S. W. by N.
In the teeth of a raging gale."...

Sorry, got to go out and shovel some more slush!

A SAILOR'S YARN Continued Part 2

"Then, fly aloft to the royal top yard
And reef that spanker boom,
Bend a studding sail to the martingale
To give her weather room."...

"Pray, bosun, down in the for'ard hold,
What water do you show?"
"Four foot and a half by the royal gaff
And rather more below."...

"Then, sailors, collar your marline spikes
And roll each belaying pin;
Come, stir your stumps to spike the pumps,
Or more will be coming in."...

Cheerily!

A SAILOR'S YARN Continued Part 3

They stirred their stumps, they spiked the pumps,
They spliced the mizzen brace;
Aloft and alow they worked, but, oh!
The water gained apace...

They bored a hole beneath her line
To let the water out,
But more and more with an awful roar,
The water in did spout...

Then up spoke the cook of our gallant ship –
And he was a lubber brave –
"I've several wives in various ports,
And me bacon I would save."...

Refreshing!

Still holding you in my thoughts and prayers.

So I guess we have three Barry threads going. Could we combine "MORE" and "TWO". I posted this to "TWO" this morning.

I spoke with Barry last night and he sounded better than the first time I spoke with him. He remains upbeat and optimistic. He told me to thank everyone for the good thoughts and prayers. Our guy is doing fine. Please keep the cards, prayers, thoughts and emails coming. He really does appreciate them.

All the best,

Mick

Hey! The Press Room session was great last night but definitely needed more singers! Plenty of tunes, though, as the Angel Band was in attendance.

I am, with all the others, looking forward to seeing you at some of the summer fun that is being planned.

Hang in there kid!

Mick, I'd started this one hoping number TWO would drop down so Barry and his family wouldn't have to be reminded of the negatives ala the 3/20 posting at 1244am on number TWO.

Until now, I didn't say so, publicly, because I didn't want to start any problems with anyone. I did PM the poster immediately after it went up, asking him to think about how it might make Barry and his family feel and that he could request it be amended etc. Having received no reply, I thus explain.

Hey, Barry, we even had freezing rain, this morning when we went out! I hope you have a window, too!

A SAILOR'S YARN Continued Part IV

The next to speak was our bosun bold,
Who feared neither fish nor fog –
"'Tis dreadful to die, but 'tis worse to go dry,
And I move we pipes to grog." (2X)

The last to speak was our second mate,
Whose courage was second to none –
"Takes more than lip to save a ship,
I'll show you how 'tis done!" (2X)

Then hoasting the anchor upon his back,
He leapt into the main;
Through foam and spray he clove his way,
And sunk and rose again.(2X)

Through foam and spray, a league away,
The anchor stout he bore,
Till safe at last, he made it fast,
And warped the ship ashore!
Yes, he warped the ship ashore!

(Spoken)
Ay, this is the tale 'twas told to me,
By that modest and truthful son of the sea;
And I envy the life of a second mate,
Though captains curse him and the sailors hate;
For he ain't like some of the swabs I've seen
Who'd go and lie to a poor marine.

Hope you enjoyed this, Barry!

Barry, my daughter today asked me what the little heart on my driver's license is for. I explained the best I could, and she seemed to understand - as much as a kid can. I told her about you, and we talked about a woman we know who recieved a heart last year, and a friend who is waiting for a heart/lung. I think she was ready to hear the message, though nobody wants to think of their ma and pa passing. All I could think was, Thank God we are where we are that we can even THINK about doing this stuff, and that as long as you follow orders you're gonna be OK.

I really do think of you and your family all the time. I'm praying for all of you, and looking forward to another round of bench-moving shanties and other delectable songs at the next Getaway with you.

Dani

Barry, I hate to introduce a dark cloud into this thread but I just talked to Meg and she hasn't seen your volunteer form yet for Mystic. Hey, man, ya gotta get that form to her.

I told her where you are and how to find this thread. The people at Mystic had heard you had trouble but didn't know what was going on. I told them and reassured them and made sure she understood you wanted to be there.

They are cutting back on volunteer help from 40 people to 25. This means longer hours and fewer of the familiar faces. I'd hate to be the one decding who cannot make it to the fesitval. Oh, and your ususal job is gone. She says they aren't selling the programs this year, they are giving them away.

I'll repeat this message in the other Barry Thread.

There were no innocents.

Barry was, though, EVER a gentlemen. As were you all. Takes true class to retain your 'gentle' status while singing raunchy songs...
