I was working every time I visited, and I never had time to figure out how to get in to look and listen. If you can come up with some instructions on how we can make use of the Library of Congress, that would help a lot. I'm wondering if it might be nice to spend several days there in conjunction with my annual Getaway trip some year. So far, this is what I found: Florida Folklife from the WPA Collections has a number of online recordings. Lots of recordings at Wisconsin Folksong Collection, 1937-1946 You'll find other sound recordings, including a limited number of WPA recordings, at the American Memory Collection of the Library of Congress. Seems like there should be more available, though. I suppose it's nice that some of the Federal Writers' Project state books are still in print, but it seems to me that since this was something the people paid for, it ought to be available online, for free. -Joe- |

As far as I can tell, the WPA Folk Song Collections are still not readily available online. Some of the state-by-state WPA Guides are available for sale - but as far as I know, they are not online. I know some of the guides discuss music - do they include transcriptions of songs? Anybody know of ways to access these WPA collections online or at reasonable cost? -Joe- |

One of the many finding aids published by the LC Folk Archive is a 2-page sheet entitled _Folklore and Related Activities of the WPA in the Collections of the Archive of Folk Culture_. Another one is 7 pages and is entitled _Folklore and the W.P.A.: A Preliminary Bibliography_. These are free and available in person from the Folklife Reading Room (you'be been there), or by mail.

But home (not where I am now) I have Stephen Wade's email address (I know him slightly, and he's been to my place), and he is in fairly regular contact with Joe. I know several others that I think would know his email address, also, and can get to them tomorrow by email if Stephen Wade isn't home (and he's often away giving concerts, at a confrence, or researching). |

Does anyone know if the LOC has a copy of all of the collections made? Are these things we could find in local libraries, Bruce?
