Subject: Musical Riddle
From: Bedubya

There once was a band which featured the following instruments: Drum, Bugle, Trumpet, Pipes, Fiddle and Guitar. They fired the guitar player because he didn't fit in. Why?

First correct answer wins.........absolutely nothing.

Cheers

You can't march very well with a guitar..... or the amp lead won't stretch that far.....

OK- does it have to do with the letters? Drum, Bugle, Trumpet all have "u", Pipe and Fiddle have "i", Guitar has both---- Still thinking....

My guess is that all the other instruments other than guitar are played by ########-ers, whereas the guitar is played by a guitarIST.

And while I'm on about it, I remember seeing Spaw refer to Dennis Brain as a "Hornist" Is a French Horn player in fact a hornist? I think it is a lovely word. FWIW if I played the pipes I would prefer to be a pipist, and why is a fluter a Flautist? Bloody pretentious, if you ask me.

Interesting too that you can be a harpist or a harper (some of the ones I have known were even harpies, but that is anothere story). I think if you are blind, however, you are more or less obliged to be a "harper".

Enough rambling ......

Phil the Flautist's Ball?

Why isn't a flute player a Flutenist, or a lute player a Lautist?

When I'm tired of being a singer I switch over to being a vocalist. Much more comfortable.

No one has ever figured out what you call a Tuba player, because no one has ever wanted to call one. . .kidding

Bart, who has, in his time tooted the Trumpet, the Tuba, and a number of other assorted horns. You might say I'm a regular pain in the Brass. . .

Goodnight, all.

So why is it I only play instruments that describe me as a #### player? Although I have heard bassist, but I wouldn't use it myself. Strange that.

Hey, I've got a bone to pick. ;)

Do you horn players often get the question from clueless laymen (chuckling at their own wit, as obviously NO ONE has ever thought of this before), of "So does that make you 'horny'?"

I swear, if ONE MORE PERSON says "So does that make you a harpy?" or "Stop harping on me!" when I tell them what I play, I'm going to go ballistic.

It's right up there with "Heh heh...I'll bet you get into ALL the movies for half-price!" when I tell people I'm actually 25, even though I'm only 4'8". Pardon me while I scream and throw a tantrum. :PPP

Moll, I would never say such foolish things. I love harp music.

My grandmother, God rest her soul, was only 4'8" and was one of the most wonderful people you could hope to meet. I say good things come in small packages.

That would make a good thread, stupid things people say about your name, your instrument, whatever, wherein they act as if they were the first person to ever think of it.
