Subject: Tune Req: Who Will Sing For Me? From: GUEST,Lin in Kansas Date: 06 Jan 05 - 01:10 PM Hi all-- Does anyone have dots or a midi for this song? I've Googled until I'm blue, but can't find the music, and I'm hopeless at trying to write it out by ear. Don't need the lyrics, they're in the DT, but no tune. So if we can come up with one, I'll send it to MMario for the Great Tune Add, too! Anybody? Thanks, Lin |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Who Will Sing For Me? From: pdq Date: 06 Jan 05 - 01:48 PM If someone wants to simply listen to this song, try "The Three Pickers" CD with Doc Watson, Ricky Skaggs and Earl Scruggs. It is nearly a 'must have' from last year anyway. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Who Will Sing For Me? From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Jan 05 - 02:36 PM It's a Stamps-Baxter song (actually titled "Who'll Sing For Me," written by Thomas J. Farris, published in 1944), which means you'll find it in a number of Stamps-Baxter hymnals. I've got it in one called Sentimental Songs (1946), and I'll post a MIDI a while later, after I finish my home-schooling chores. I'll bet there's a good story behind Stamps-Baxter. Many of my favorite gospel songs were first published by that firm. If you like to sing gospel, you ought to have a Stamps-Baxter hymnal or two. They're unbelievably plentiful (and cheap). I don't know who's publishing the Stamps-Baxter songs nowadays. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Who Will Sing For Me? From: Lin in Kansas Date: 06 Jan 05 - 02:36 PM pdq: Yep, that's where I heard it first--great CD. Sounds like the three of them (and Alison Krauss as a guest) had a lot of fun! I'm still looking for dots or a midi...? Lin |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Who Will Sing For Me? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 06 Jan 05 - 07:30 PM I love this by the Stanley Brothers. I can't imagine anyone doing it as well as they did... just personal prejudice.. Jerry |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Who Will Sing For Me? From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Jan 05 - 09:56 PM I dunno, Jerry. I think I'd like to hear you and the Gospel Messengers do it. I bet you'd sound terrific. Anyhow, here's my last, best stab at a MIDI. Please note lyrics and comments from Dale Rose in the other thread (click). As Dale notes, songwriter Farris and others have reworked this song since it was first published. Parts of the MIDI won't sound familiar, but it's very close to what's printed in the hymnal. These echo songs are a bear to enter in Noteworthy. -Joe Offer- Click to playClick to play (full harmony) |
