Subject: RE: A Compendium of M/F Folk Music Duo's From: Murray MacLeod Date: 03 Apr 01 - 12:25 PM Cilla Fisher and Artie Tresize. Subject: RE: A Compendium of M/F Folk Music Duo's From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Apr 01 - 02:08 PM I wish there were more people outside Minnesota – heck, I wish there were more people IN Minnesota -- who knew and appreciated Bill Hinkley & Judy Larson. You may have heard them on the Prairie Home Companion , but other than that, they don't circulate much. They've only produced one album that I know of: Out in Our Meadow Here are some other Minnesota duos: Dakota Dave Hull and Kari Larson (See review here.) Ann and Charlie Heymann who perform under the name Clairseach (See article here.) |
Subject: RE: A Compendium of M/F Folk Music Duo's From: Peg Date: 01 Apr 01 - 01:50 PM Hollowfox; you lived in Geneseo??? I went to school there. Lovely area, the Genesee Valley... okay I guess I should add to the topic on this thread: recently I thought Karan Casey and Niall Vallelly made a nice duo (with their guitar player Donal Clancy making it sort of a trio I guess) but now she is singing with a much larger band... Do the male and female singers of the English band Magpie Lane count?

Subject: RE: A Compendium of M/F Folk Music Duo's From: catspaw49 Date: 31 Mar 01 - 08:29 PM Glad rich brought up Robin and Linda Williams....very nice mountain sound. Mick....Good call on Jean and Doc Watson. I have no idea how Jean sees that particular performance and recording, but as you know it was considered to be a watershed event in the folk movement of the 60's. it's still one of my favorite recordings and it brought the sound of the mountains to the "urban folk" scene. Good choice. Spaw |

It is Jean Ritchie (kytrad on the Mudcat) and Doc Watson. The album/CD is Smithsonian Folkways CD SF 40005, titled Jean Ritchie and Doc Watson at Folk City. This was recorded in about 1962 at Folk City in New York City. It is one of my all time favorites. All the best, Mick |

Subject: RE: A Compendium of M/F Folk Music Duo's From: catspaw49 Date: 29 Mar 01 - 07:27 PM Well Bob, as a way of refreshing this, how about we start with our own Sandy and Caroline Paton? Not only a great duo, but a great love story as well. The numbers of people who have had their lives touched by them and the music they love is beyond counting. And then of course there is the talented family and finally Folk Legacy Records. Now as a duo with a broad sweep across folk, that's hard to beat. Spaw |
Subject: A Compendium of M/F Folk Music Duo's From: BobP Date: 29 Mar 01 - 05:47 PM Can we, perhaps, assemble a list of male/female folk music duos? Including soloists who have partnered up at times. And, can we try to keep it as barbones as possible, in case someone wants to save and keep as a reference? Please include, as appropriate; names, location (state, country, or town), website, and the title of one good recording. Optional, you may wish to indicate: Living, Passed On, or Broken Up (not likely to reassemble).
