I was wondering what the list of the top 5 blues albums would look like. Any thoughts?

Mississippi John Hurt's Avalon Blues should too.

Blues Killer, this is a tough one. Are you looking at overall, or Country Blues, Chicago Blues, Blues/Rock?

No, I can't do this (done top ten some time ago and that wasn't enough!). It would mean choosing only 5 artists so I'd cheat and have the 4-LP Story of the Blues by Paul Oliver and another compilation, probably the Chess Blues Sampler for the fifth just for variety- but choosing 5 as "top" would be too hard. Big Bill's Blues by Broonzy and the Leadbelly Library of Congress sessions and the complete Robert Johnson are easy but which Sonny and Brownie, which Fred McDowell, no , I surrender...

Killer, I'd suggest that you visit Bob Koester's Jazz Record Mart on North Wabash Street in Chicago and ask to see their blues albums. You really have to see them to understand. I'm guessing it would take several days just to glance at the cover of each blues album in their store. As for how long it would take to actually listen to them all in order to pass judgement, who can guess.

Don't misunderstand, I'm ready to begin the task. I may not live to hear the last one but what a way to go. Of course we could just ask Bob Koester which five are best, he probably has listened to them all. <g>
