Subject: SONG SCHOLARS-Unique Challenge-Need Help From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Mar 01 - 03:30 PM ***YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE !!!! *** We have some of the best scholars around and a very unique question to be answered, if it can. I'll refresh this thread occasionally to be sure I catch most of you. This one is beyond the bounds of normal searches as the only recording of the song is done by the person requesting the background! The artist here is Jean Ritchie, known here at the 'Cat as 'kytrad.' Please check THIS THREAD and see if you can help to identify where the idea for,or possibly the song itself, came from. This is a bit different you must admit. Refresh this thread as you read it to keep it in view as others check in. Thanks for doing whatever you can. Spaw |

Subject: RE: SONG SCHOLARS-Unique Challenge-Need Help From: GUEST,Bruce O. Date: 30 Mar 01 - 04:19 PM Don't know that one. It isn't on either of the 2 Jean Ritchie LPs I have, or in her 'Singing Family of the Cumberlands'. |
Subject: RE: SONG SCHOLARS-Unique Challenge-Need Help From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 30 Mar 01 - 04:52 PM Jean, I'll email Nancy (Johnson) Barker (who organizes KY Music Weekend, works here in Bardstown and can be reminded of our request often at the school where she works) vikinglass (who used to post here and is in the Louisville Dulcimer Society), James/Jim who is heading up the wonderful Homefront Series in Louisville, Mary M.(who knows everything!), and anybody else I can think of in the Kentucky Folk scene. Maybe we'll find something. Oh yes, one of my friends is a local historian here in Bardstown, but she also has roots in Eastern Kentucky. She may be able to trace down something. We'll keep this one alive...at least talked about for a good while! |

Subject: RE: SONG SCHOLARS-Unique Challenge-Need Help From: GUEST,Bruce O. Date: 31 Mar 01 - 11:18 AM Possibly a variant of "This world belongs to two for tonight" in Levy collection [box 191, #209](Mudcat's Links)(click), but they don't give lyrics. Drop them a line and they'll send it to you, as I remember. |

Subject: RE: SONG SCHOLARS-Unique Challenge-Need Help From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 01 Apr 01 - 06:35 PM Jean, I just returned from the gathering where I passed out flyers to several vendors and instructors requesting info about your song. They all said they'd circulate the request and keep an ear out. I've contacted the above folks except for James/Jim (are you listening here Jim?). I don't think he checks his Mudcat personal messages often. You might be interested in these news items circulated at the meeting:
On Friday evening, March 30, 2001, at 8:00 pm Mary Smith and Senator Tori were honored during the opening concert of The Ohio Valley Gathering, sponsored by the Louisville Dulcimer Society...
