Subject: Irish language TV for the internet From: GUEST,JTT Date: 01 Apr 01 - 05:44 AM According to IrelandClick TG4 and Sky are in discussions on broadcasting the Irish language station online. TG4 makes fabulous music programmes like Sult and various others - often making both Irish- and English-language versions and selling the English versions abroad - and has the best-looking newsreaders and weather broadcasters going! Here's what the article says: Sky agus TG 4 i mbun cainteanna 28 Mar 01 Tá an comhlacht satailíte, Sky Digital, ag lorg cainteanna le TG4 le theacht ar shocrú faoin tseirbhís a chur ar fáil i measc na stáisiún eile atá ar fáil ina phacáiste digiteach. Thug urlabhraí an chomhlachta le fios go raibh cainteanna cheana féin acu le TG4 agus go mbeadh a thuilleadh ann go luath. "Tá an-suim againn TG4 a chur ar fáil ar Sky Digital," a dúirt an t-urlabhraí, Richard Foster. Tháinig an scéal is déanaí sna sála ar chinneadh Sky BBC Thuaisceart na hÉireann a chur ar fáil i bpacáiste na gcainéal ó dheas den teorainn. Cé gur fháiltigh leascheannasaí TG4, Padraig Ó Ciardha, roimh an deis an stáisiún a chur ar fáil ar Sky nó ar "ardán ar bith a chuideodh linn gach duine ar mhian leis TG4 a shroichint", dúirt sé go raibh go leor ceisteanna le plé go fóill le Sky. Luaigh sé ceisteanna ar nós chearta na léiritheoirí agus cúraimí trachtála. Dúirt sé freisin go raibh polasaí "saor go haer" ag TG4, rud a chiallaíonn go mbeadh ceisteanna acu faoi iachall a bheith ar an lucht féachana táille a íoc chun an tseirbhís a fháil. Deir Gearóid Ó Cairealláin gur céim chun tosaigh é TG4 a bheith ar fáil ar Sky Digital ach mheabhraigh sé nár cheart go gciallódh sin go leanfaí den drogall polaitiúil atá ina bhac ar fháil fhorleathan bheith ar an stáisiún. "Duirt Comhaontú Aoine an Chéasta go mbeadh fáil níos fearr ar TG4 go práinneach – trí bliana níos déanaí, is beag feabhas atá ar an chomhartha. "Tá súil againn nach sop in áit na scuaibe é seo." Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: zander (inactive) Date: 01 Apr 01 - 05:53 AM What is the point of posting something most of the mudcatters can't read. Baffled, Dave |
Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: GUEST,JTT Date: 01 Apr 01 - 12:16 PM Some can, though. Don't be ethnocentric. I'm not sure about this, though...just realised the date. |
Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: zander (inactive) Date: 01 Apr 01 - 04:29 PM What does ethnocentric mean for fucks sake. Still baffled, Dave |
Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: Áine Date: 01 Apr 01 - 05:07 PM A JTT, Go raibh míle maith agat as do theachtaireacht -- agus ní raibh fadbh agam ar bith é a leamh -- níl fhios agam faoi 'zander' agus a thuairim chomh dána . . . b'fheidir go bhfuil éad an domhan air? :-) Slán, Áine And Dave -- as far as 'ethnocentric' goes -- look it up. There are quite a few 'Catters who will appreciate the message that JTT has posted. If you can't understand the language, then the message wasn't meant for you, now was it? |
Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 Apr 01 - 05:11 PM Aine, I wouldn't know if the message contained anything that might be useful to those of us who don't understand the language. Does it give any indication as to the types of programs? I for one could be quite interested in a music program even if it was presented in gaelic. Jon |
Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: Áine Date: 01 Apr 01 - 05:31 PM Dear Jon, Unfortunately, I don't have the time to translate the message at the moment -- I'm in the midst of moving to a new house (as of tomorrow afternoon). Perhaps JTT will be so good as to do the honours. All the best, Áine |
Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: zander (inactive) Date: 02 Apr 01 - 02:59 AM I have looked in Roget's thesaurus and 2 dictionaries and I still cant find ' ethnocentric '. I always thought the Mudcat was a forum for ALL, this thread would appear to EXCLUDE rather a lot of us. Let us not go down the path of, ' this thread is for certain people only ' Dave |
Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: RichM Date: 03 Apr 01 - 03:10 AM Never mind the translation. As Aine says, if you can't read it, it's not for you. And obviously not meant to enlighten the majority of Mudcatters. Rich McCarthy |
Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: katlaughing Date: 03 Apr 01 - 04:10 AM I can't read it, but I am always glad to see a language other than English on here. It shows that we are open to any and all, including those who may not know English. I have also learned a little bit of Icelandic and other languages by being exposed to the richness of diversity. The Mudcat has a tradition, especially, of Gaelic/Gaelige postings. Here's your definition:

Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: Jon Freeman Date: 03 Apr 01 - 12:42 PM So then, in the spirit of being "open to all", can someone please have the courtesy to give an indication as to what the gaelic post says or at least answer my question? Jon |
Subject: RE: BS: TG4 for the internet From: zander (inactive) Date: 03 Apr 01 - 01:56 PM kat/katlaughing, thanks for the explanation of ' ethnocentric ' but it's not an ' attitude ' Yorkshiremen really are superior. Love to all, Dave |
