Rockland County is on the Western shore of the Hudson River, just North of New Jersey. The Tappan Zee Bridge leads into Nyack, which is in Rockland County. Historically, it's where Allan Ginsburg's mother was confined in a mental institution, leading hinm to write "Howl," one of the greatest of all "beat" poems.

I think my memory was faulty about Naomi Ginsberg, Here's a link about Allen Ginzberg's Kaddish that places the hospital elsewhere.

On topic: years ago, there was always a song circle at the home of the late Lil Appel in Rockland County. What ever became of it after her passing?

For the purposes of this thread I'll consider Orange and Rockland county one entity, since I'm not sure where the border is.Boodles in downtown Chester regularly features folk performers both locally and nationally known. They have an upcoming spring folk festival where you could probably hook up with some local perfomers.Middletown Community college has a regular concert series on Sundays featuring mostly singer songwriters.I believe you are expected to bring food in addition to admission,so I guess there is time for interaction. A short ride south on rt 287 will bring you to the Minstrel show coffee house in Morristown NJ, where there are folk concerts every Friday. Most of the places I mentioned have web sites and you can get links from 2 of the local FM radio stations WFDU and WFUV. My friend Mark lives in Monroe NY and is very knowledgeable about the acoustic music scene in southern NY state.I'll contact him and update any relevant information, which leads me to the question of how do you find a thread once it has disappeared from the oening list?If I can"t figure it out I'll start a new thread,

MM,

The daily thread list's default setting is to show everything that has been posted to in the last 24 hours. To find an older thread is easy, and there are three ways. (More, but three for now.)

Easiest is making a bookmark.

Next is using the "filter box" described in our FAQ thread to change the time period setting-- you might go see it now, so you will know where to look on a later visit.

Best is joining Mudcat, and then (as you will see described in the FAQ thread) you get a personal page within the site for exchanging messages with other members and "TRACING" the threads you want to keep an eye on. Once you join, click "Trace" in the thread list (see that far right column in the thread list?) and this puts a link to that thread on your personal page till you Detrace it. Then you can click to that thread anytime, from your personal page. Once you join, you get to your personal page via the link up in the banner to Personal Pages.

Hope you join-- it's a great place and you seem like just the sort to be part of all this. Great info you posted.

Holler if you get lost at Mudcat! And check out the FAQ-- it's a lot to absorb at once, but it does sink in faster than you'd suspect it could. In a month you'll be the veteran extending help to another newcomer!

Hey where are you in rockland ? I am in Rockland. Peter, that you? I don't know of any particularly "folk" clubs in rockland, beyond the TP. I am always on the look out. We should get together , provided we don't already play together. I got a great little blues/folk/ bluegrass/original band that is starting to do some work around town. You should come up for a session. -- Dan
