Subject: Nota bene for musicians
From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler

As anyone who has read any of my posts will have gathered, I know nothing about music.
However, I am always willing to learn, and having found a useful aide memoire I thought I would share with the rest of you.
p = piano (soft)- the neighbours have complained
f = forte (loud) - the neighbours are out
Crescendo = getting louder - testing the neighbours' tolerance level
ff = fortissimo (VERY loud) - to hell with the neighbours
pp = pianissimo (VERY soft) = the neighbours are at the door
Dim (see also "skiffler") = thick
Obbligato =being forced to practice
Rit (and/or) Rall = coming up to the bit where you HAVEN'T practised
Con moto = I have a car
Allegro = a little motor car
Maestro = a bigger motor car
Metronome = a person small enough to fir comfortably into a Mini
Lento = the days leading up to Easto (with eggo and choco and things)
Largo = brewed in Germany (Hence "Handel's largo reaches parts other beers cannot reach")
Piu Animato = if you don't clean that rabbit out it will have to go

If you have any additions that might help me further please post them
If you think I'm beyond help then just let the thread die.
RtS

moderato - only consuming largo in small quantities.

descant - letting largo breathe.

tranquillo - the feeling one gets after consuming largo other than moderato.

ppp - what you have to do after so much largo.

con spirito - having way too much largo and playing music with your dead grandmother.

andante con moto - and your aunty and mother.

larghetto - the pounding headache that resulted from above activities.

con brio = serve with a nice cold beer

a capella = time of day to call MMario for a song

sforzando = The Mbo effect on a folk tune (a good thing)

andante = a hellish speed

allegro = so fast it makes your head spin and leak mucus

poco = picky, picky

fartissimo con vegemite = (Think about it.)

fugue = Mudcat cleaning process when too many strident voices are arguing for ascendancy and have not kept to their parts

RtS, if you are beyond hope you are apparently in good company, and we will all have to go together, concertante.

~Susan

Yes bert, where you smack your hand on your forehead and exclaim, "We'll have to do it a capella!"

Or, a capella = where to glue the toupee. What a dozey lot eh Bert M'dear; all these should have been italicized. FAQ THREAD SEZ HOW!
