See and hear a sound/video clip HERE in a concert at the Kennedy Center's Millenium Stage by the Myles Family. It's at about 32:40 into the concert, done black gospel quartet style.

THREAD CREEP ALERT! I missed this one first time around, but started laughing when I read the thread title. It reminded me of a bit of shtick I saw Bob Hope do on one of his live shows years ago. He was standing on stage playing with his ever-present golf club, when the standard kewpie doll came up and wanted the keys to the car. He told her: "Sure, the keys are in my pocket. Just reach in and get them," - all the while playing with the golf club. She reached in and said: "Oh. Bob, I feel so silly." With out missing a beat, he replied; "Dig a little deeper and you'll feel nuts."

OK, now back to gospel songs.

Subject: Lyr Add: DIG A LITTLE DEEPER (from Mahalia Jackson

There's a Mahalia Jackson fan site that has a version.

DIG A LITTLE DEEPER

(verse1)
Nearer to thee I want to be
I want to dig a little deeper
In the storehouse of his love
I want to shine in love sublime
I want to dig a little deeper
In the storehouse of his love

(verse2)
I want to do what's always true
I want to dig a little deeper
In the storehouse of his love
Each passing hour I want more power
I want to dig a little deeper
In the storehouse of his love

(chorus)
I want to dig a little deeper
In God's love
Dig a little deeper
In God's love
Dig a little deeper
In the storehouse of his love
I want to talk more like
A Christian should
And walk more like my Jesus would
I want to dig a little deeper
In the storehouse of his love.

Dig a Little Deeper
Public Domain

Nearer to Thee; (Nearer to Thee)
I want to be; (I want to be)
(I'm gonna) Dig a little deeper in the storehouse of His love; (of His love)
I want to shine; (I want to shine)
With love Divine; (With love Divine)
(I'm gonna) Dig a little deeper in the storehouse of His love; (of His love)

(Now don't you wanna) Dig a little deeper in God's love
(I'm gonna) Dig a little deeper in God's love
(I'm gonna) Dig a little deeper in the storehouse of His love; (of His love)
(I'm gonna) Walk a little more like a Christian should
(I'm gonna) Talk a little more like I know I should
(I'm gonna) Dig a little deeper in the storehouse of His love; (of His love)

I want to do; (I want to do)
What e'er is true; (What e'er is true)

(Now don't you wanna) Dig a little deeper in God's love
(I'm gonna) Dig a little deeper in God's love
(I'm gonna) Dig a little deeper in the storehouse of His love; (Well...)
(I'm gonna) Walk a little more like a Christian should
(I'm gonna) Talk a little more like I know I should
(I'm gonna) Dig a little deeper in the storehouse of His love; (deeper in His love)

There're several recordings of this gospel, but I have found only one verse.

DIG A LITTLE DEEPER
(by Kenneth Morris)

I want to dig a little deeper in God's love,
Dig a little deeper in God's love,
Dig a little deeper in the storehouse of God's love.
Gonna walk on like a Christian should,
Talk on like my Jesus would,
Dig a little deeper in the storehouse of his love.

The correct title is probably-

Dig A Little Deeper In God's Love

recorded by The Cathedrals and also by The Gaithers

A Totally different song than

Dig A Little Deeper In The Well...

this was the theme of the Fairfield Four, an African-American quartet (quintet or sextet, actually) who disbanded this year after the death of Rev. Hill, one of the mainstays of the group. They recorded for Bullet and Dot records in Nashville during the 40's and 50's--their best stuff--and for Warner Bros. recently (1990's). This song should be on reissues of the old recordings (possibly Ace Cds from the UK) and maybe recut for the Warners CDs. Hope this helps, bruce

Jim, I'll start looking. Southern gospel? Can you get any more information from the person who requested it? Such as, is it an older one or is it contemporary? Or who has recorded it?

BTW, you might want to bookmark this thread in case it is hard to find when you come back looking. It may take me awhile and threads without posts fall off the thread list. You can also find them, tho, by changing the "time filter." (See FAQ Thread.)

Interesting title... the one I know is DIG A LITTLE DEEPER IN THE WELL. Maybe your item is the same one-- maybe there is a phrase like yours in it that I am not recalling.
