Harry Champion's dates were 1866-1942. All songs named above, except for some reason for Boiled Beef, are on DT.

Any Old Iron was a music hall song sung by a famous artiste called Harry Champion. My Uncle Dave used to render another of his songs, A Little Bit Of Cucumber, at family parties. His other very well-known songs were I'm Enery The Eighth I Am [his signature tune] & Boiled Beef & Carrots. There is a good Wiki entry on him.

The actual title of the song Mick is singing is The Sons of Liberty, written by Dan Milner.

Wolfgang, your link is no longer working. But I'm just finishing up a video of Big Mick singing a song that starts out "Farewell, ye sons of Ireland ..." and finishes up each verse with "...
North Amerikay."   It's from the wee hours of the morning in the Peace Cabin at last year's FSGW Getaway.   As soon as it's finished I'll put it online and maybe you can tell me if this is the same "North Amerikay" your link originally went to.

You're lucky, Cleod, I got the Chieftains CD couple of days earlier and have done the search already last week. Here's North Americay and here's Any Old Iron . The second one is only close to what he sings.

The "North Amerikay" song is probably the one usually known in Ireland as "Ye lovers all", from the first line. Its in Sam Henry's "SOngs of the People" book.

If you transcribe it - I'll try to edit it for you!

Song titles are often about the poorest way to identify a song, so many have the same or almost the same title. There are several about Irishmen going to, or in North America. How about giving the first line or two of the song?

Hi! I just got this Chieftains cd "An Irish Evening" and there's this song Kevin Conneff sings entitled "North Americay" -- I looked in the DigiTrad Database but no song...help! Oh! And I'm also looking for the the song sing by Roger Daltrey on the same cd "Any Old Iron". He mentioned something about it being a London folksong...
