Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: Ruthie A Date: 05 Apr 01 - 03:38 PM YYYYYAAAAYYYYY!!!! Bill was my flute and whistle tutor at Caedmon Folk (in Gateshead) for the better part of last year, and I am eternally indebted to her. She's not just a great player - she's an amazing tutor too. I think we should plug her lots because she deserves it. Kate's fabulous too - one of these days she's going to wake up and find herself with my voice, as I'll have nicked off with hers and given her mine in part-exchange. I think somebody'd better warn her! Ruthie |

Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: Susan of DT Date: 07 Apr 01 - 07:52 PM (from dick greenhaus) If you don't mind spending a little less (13 pounds=18-20 dollars depending on the rate that day) you could get it through CAMSCO. If you're in the States, there's the added advantage of no currency conversion hassle. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: harpmolly Date: 03 May 01 - 03:32 PM They finally put it on the order form at her website! I don't know if I can afford to order it from the UK (conversion makes it pricey, plus shipping), especially now that I'm not sure if I'll be employed in a month *grin*. But I may have to risk it. Yay! Also, she's coming to the States again! Woohoo! she's playing the Tractor Tavern in Seattle on July 17th! I wonder how early they'll start selling tickets... M |

Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: Les from Hull Date: 04 May 01 - 11:34 AM It's great reading all these posts from t'other side of the Atlantic about our Kate. For those of us who've known Kate since she was little (well she's still little but you know what I mean) and seen her develop into a wonderful performer without loosing her personality, it's very gratifying, and no more than Kate deserves. Thanks everyone! Les |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: DancingMom Date: 04 May 01 - 09:59 PM I didn't know of this lady, but you guys have piqued my interest! I'll have to check her out. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 20 May 01 - 04:44 AM Help I am looking for a thread which mentioned who was with Kate on Jool Holland, the fantastic whistle players that is, I am sure I saw it somewhere around here. I am guessing Mr McGoldrick but who was the other one? How do they produce such wonderful sounds from whistles? Of course Kate was wonderful too as always. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 30 May 01 - 12:25 PM My Cd just arrived, and I got yella hoose too (seem to remember Matt raving about it |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: harpmolly Date: 30 May 01 - 12:50 PM Roger, do share! how is it? :) I can't wait. I shall camp out by the mail slot. Work? Sleep? Bah, humbug! M |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 30 May 01 - 01:39 PM I like it, though as I love her voice and Michael McGoldricks whistle playing it would have been difficult for me not to like it. Kate wrote a few of the songs on this one, I have already heard 'I courted a Sailor' a couple of times and that is an instant favourite from the first time I heard it. The CD includes the words in a booklet/cover and the explanation of the song 'My Young Man' choked me up. Hope you like yours Mollificent |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: Sooz Date: 30 May 01 - 01:54 PM Wasn't the other whistle player John McCusker ( he now has a very minimal hairstyle!) The new album is great, particularly the track "Who will sing me lullabies?" dedicated to Davy Steele. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 30 May 01 - 02:12 PM think you are right Sooz I had never seen John McCusker before. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: harpmolly Date: 06 Jun 01 - 02:25 PM *sniffle sniffle* just got it and have listened to it about 10 times. You were right about the explanation for "my young man"...I hadn't really paid that much attention until I read that, and now I'm going back and looking at it. Wow. The lyrics to the song are really amazing in light of the explanation. :~( Did you find the hidden track? it totally took me by surprise...I'd been cooking dinner while the CD played, so didn't bother turning it off when I thought it was over...then, about a minute later, I almost jumped out of my skin! it's very cool though. Yay Kate! And only one more month till she's in Seattle! I've got my tickets all squared away. Now to wait :( M |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby new album From: Dorrie Date: 06 Jun 01 - 04:44 PM i wasn't actually too kean when i first heard but i must say i love it as much as the other 1s now i particually like-'Who will sing me lulabies' and my sisters boyfriend is really liking 'Courted a sailor' and he used to hate folk music until he moved in with us. love dorrie xxx |
