I remember listening to Linda Ronstadt's recording of Heart Like a Wheel and having to take the record off the player. Another song from that time that I couldn't listen to was Bernie Ledden's Lying Eyes. I still can't listen to the long version of it.

Huh! A "love gone wrong" thread and no mention of the mistress of that genre, June Tabor. Any of her CDs would do, but I suppose if I had to choose one track it would be Bob Franke's "Hard Love" - because that seems to fit the original description, where it strikes me that EVEN THOUGH it didn't turn out "as hoped" both parties have benefited from the experience.

The other one - for the hell of love's ending - it The McGarrigle's "Heart Like a Wheel" (except no recorded version of THAT comes close to the version June used to sing live . . WHY did she never record it??)

At least 3/4 of the songs Patsy Cline sang are appropriate for one phase or another of the whole process of grieving for love lost.

One of my favorite nanny-nanny-poo-poo phase songs includes the lyric: "...maybe someday, you'll want me to want you when I am strong for somebody else And although you don't want me now, I'll get along somehow and then I won't want you."

At least, Beau, your situation was not "A church, a courtroom and then good-bye!"

One going through my head is called 'Another hump 'em and dump 'em situation', singer unknown to me, but boy, does it get you where it hurts, especially if you've just been shunted out of an intensly intimate relationship for no other reason than paranoia.

Otherwise - as recorded by Abba - 'The day before you came' puts a slant on things that might have gone astray....

Just checking back in after a few days absence, and I found all of theses wonderful sentiments. It occurs to me, there must be as many ways to feel about this type of situation as there are people who go thru it. I have felt many of these emotions since this whole sh*tty process began. I find myself stuck in a situation where I really want to communiate to her what I am feeling (sadness, anger, a desire to have her back)--anything but to stuff my feelings, which has been a bad habit I acquired--but to do so will make me appear weak, and will send her running for the hills; OR, conversely, I can mask my emotions, at least around her, and act as if I am okay and moving on. This will make her feel better about the situation, and might conceivably have the effect of giving her time to realize how much she misses being in a relationship with me, and thereby preserve the possibility, however unlikely, that we might eventually end up together. The problem with that is that acting that way around her makes me resent her all the more, and makes me LESS inclined to get back together with her--it makes me feel like the love I had for her is eroding. I don't know, maybe that's what I need. Catch 22.

Anyways, thanks all for the good vibes. I guess I will get over this the only way I can; one day at a time.

Life's a bitch, and then she dumps you, eh?

Robert Burn's "The Winter Is Past" tops my list of broken heart songs. Leonard Cohen's "Marianne" is a good song about a relationship at its end.

If I'm ever upset, I find George Michael's "Careless Whisper" helps. If you had any special songs try listening to them. Believe me, it works wonders!!

Beau, I haven't read every post, so if I'm repeating something, do pardon me.

There are two songs that couldn't be beat when I went through the same thing: for just plain ol' cryin' try
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry by the One And Only Hank Williams. For sheer rage, I used to sing Rocksalt and Nails by Utah Phillips. The unabashed anger and rage in that song really stands out in the verse that says:
If the ladies were blackbirds
If the ladies were thrushes,
I'd lie there for hours
In the chilly, cold marshes.
If the ladies were squirrels
With high bushy tails,
I'd fill up my shotgun
With ROCKSALT AND NAILS.

It is an awful sentiment, I know; but there were days when if it hadn't been for my upbringing and some deeply held philosophical and spiritual values, well....

It depends on whether you want to wallow in it or not. Wallowing is good, don't get me wrong. But there are different songs for different phases (Elizabeth K-R, where are you?):
1) Serious wallowing, throw yourself off the bridge wallowing. "Crying" -- Roy Orbison. "You Don't Know Me" Emmylou Harris. "The Man That Got Away", Judy Garland.
2) Moody wallowing. Frank Sinatra albums in the mid 1950s.

3) Come back, I will humiliate myself. Dusty Springfield (who else, what else?) "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me". Patsy Cline passim.

4) Snapping out of it, plus wallowing. Nothing beats George Jones: "He Stopped Loving Her Today". Good for a laugh, it is so pathetic.

YES!!! Someone finally put up some sound files from this superb CD!!!! I've only been crowing about it since it came out and never could find any audio or lyrics. He holds his property very close.

Sally Free And Easy and The Oggy Man both by Cyrill Tawney. You can do Sally... without accompaniment and really let your heart bleed into the words. Oggy Man needs a simple quiet accompaniment and says a lot in a few words.

Thanks to you guys for the good thoughts and the song lyrics. I have to remember that this is a a process of grieving. Part of me wants to rage at her for leaving me, another part wants to stay away until we each heal enough to be around each other again, yet another part just wants to run to her and hold her until we both have cried all the tears we have to cry. I am sure that with time this will become easier.

Two songs that I'd recommend is Waltzing with tears in my eyes by Cowboy Copas written in the late 1940s and Waltzing with tears in my eyes.I don't know the original artist ,but it came out in 1949 and Bob Wills did it ,but he is not the original artist.I believe one of his band members is the artist.Louie Roy

I have been away from the 'Cat for a while. Mostly just living life and working too hard. One really important part of my life for the past year has been a woman named Christine.

We came together under challenging circumstances. We fell in love. We healed each other of some long-standing wounds. We dared to dream of a life together, dancing, playing music, making babies. She was extraordinary. And I have never known anyone like her. I had never allowed myself to love, or to be loved, so deeply.

But something in her heart changed. I think we got too close for her comfort, and she began to withdraw emotionally. A couple of weeks agao, on the vernal equinox, she lowered the boom. She said she needed for once in her life to not be in a relationship, to be just by herself. Long story short, we ended the relationship, and my heart lies in ruins and ashes. I need songs that can help me mend my shattered heart. Can you help?
