All I have in my brain is Doc Watson (possibly with Merle) singing Ashes to ashes and dust to dust / Can you show me the woman that a man can trust (part of The Train That Carried My Girl From Town)... good luck otherwise...

Well, Doc sings those lyrics in Sittin' On Top of the World too. Which still doesn't help with the original question.

From: Big Tim

ASHES TO ASHES by the Oysterband on "Step Outside" album, 1986.

Some are born with a silver spoon. Some are born without a clue.
Some are born to take the biscuit. Some are born to just make do.
When those fat cats drop the big one, they will turn a penny too.
They will rent out nuclear shelters. We'll get one with an outside loo.

CHORUS: Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Ashes to ashes,
Let the rich man live. Let the poor man bust.

This one is a whiz-kid banker. He's 30 going on 19.
He says his best friend's name is Charlie. He says he keeps his nose quite clean.
He runs his Jag on lead-free petrol, thinks his politics are green.
He's in for one per cent of the national debt of the Argentine. CHORUS.

Cousin Justin's got a sideline, working for the M.O.D. [Ministry of Defence],
Expediting import-export, if you can afford the fee.
"Sorry we don't touch agriculture, not without hard currency.
Better buy some rocket launchers. With six you get a shovel, free!" CHORUS.

The line "Ashes to ashes dust to dust, show me a woman a man can trust" is also in the song "The Train That Carried my Girl From Town", which is here in the DT

Wrote this couplet back in '64

Never dreamed it would come back to my door:

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,
God may be big,
But Man is just.

ASHES TO ASHES was written by Jerry McBee and Ed Penney. It appears on Terri Gibbs' album "The Best of Terri Gibbs," Varese Vintage CD, 1996.

Here's what I was able to transcribe from a sound sample at Yahoo! Shopping > Music:

...till they met each other and my world came to an end.
They walked away together and I woke up all alone
With tears that fall like raindrops and a harvest turned to stone.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Who in this world is a woman gonna trust?
You...

Sandra, I have this on a cassette. I'll see if I can find the darned thing and transcribe it for you soon as I can, unless somebody beats me to it. Sorry, I can't furnish the chords.

What ever happened to Terri, anyway? I heard she had had some problems with drugs and doesn't tour any more--true? I heard her once in concert at a venue in Renton, Washington, and she sounded really good, wish she would do more recordings.

Yes. My dad (Jerry McBee) co-wrote the song. However, I'm sitting in coffeehouse right now, so I don't have access to the sheet music. For brevity, I'll write what I remember of the lyrics.

Once I had a lover, Once I had a friend, until they met each other and my world came to an end.
They walked away together and I'm left all alone . ???. . (I forgot this part) and my world has turned to stone

(chorus)Ashes to ashes,
dust to dust,
who in this world is a woman going to trust?
that wheel of life keeps turning,
while my carriage turns to rust,
ashes to ashes, dust to dust

Missing part of one line

ashes to ashes
dust to dust
who in this world is a woman gonna trust
your wheel of life keeps turn'in
while your carriage turns to rust
ashes to ashes
dust to dust
once I had a lover
once I had a friend
till they met each other
and my world came to an end
they walked away together
and I woke up all alone
with tears that fall like rain drops and a harvest turned to stone
ashes to ashes
dust to dust
who in this world is a woman gonna trust
you held (missing) but you're left without a crutch
ashes to ashes
dust to dust
nothing lasts forever
there's a curtain for each play
and all that we can depend on is the day we've called today
if you have a lover
if you have a friend
keep them from each other
cause you know how it may end
ashes to ashes
dust to dust
tell me who in this world is a woman gonna trust
your wheel of life keeps turn'in while your carriage turns to rust
ashes to ashes
dust to dust
ashes to ashes
dust to dust
ashes to ashes
ashes to ashes

I compared Charlie's lyrics to those in this video at YouTube and made a few corrections. (I realize this live performance may be a bit different from the commercial recording.)

ASHES TO ASHES
Words and music by Jerry McBee and Ed Penney
As sung by Terri Gibbs

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Who in this world is a woman gonna trust?
Your wheel of life keeps turnin' while your carriage turns to rust.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Once I had a lover; once I had a friend,
Till they met each other and my world came to an end.
They walked away together and I woke up all alone
With tears that fall like raindrops and a harvest turned to stone.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Who in this world is a woman gonna trust?
You hunger for a banquet but you're left without a crust.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Nothin' lasts forever; there's a curtain for each play,
And all that we can depend on is a day we call today.
If you have a lover, and if you have a friend,
You better keep them from each other 'cause you know how it may end.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Tell me, who in this world is a woman gonna trust?
Your wheel of life keeps turnin' while your carriage turns to rust.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Oh, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Ashes to ashes.

Ashes to Ashes by Terri Gibbs

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Who in this world is a woman gonna trust?
Your wheel of life keeps turning
While your carriage turns to rust.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Once I had a lover, once I had a friend
'Till they met each other
And my world came to an end.
They walked away together
And I woke up all alone
With tears that fall like rain drops
And a heart that's turned to stone.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Who in this world is a woman gonna trust?
You're hungry for a banquet, but you're left without a crust.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Nothing lasts forever, there's a curtain for each play,
And all we can depend on is the day we call today,
So if you have a lover, and if you have a friend –
Keep them from each other
'Cause you know how it may end.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Tell me, who in this world is a woman gonna trust?
Your wheel of life keeps turning
While your carriage turns to rust.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,
Oh, ashes to ashes, dust to dust,

Ashes to ashes,
Ashes to ashes,
Ashes to ashes…
