Subject: RE: Tune Req: Looking for some Lonnie Donegan tra From: Bullfrog Jones Date: 12 Nov 02 - 12:49 PM I think the one Tyke is referring to is "The Skiffle Sessions", Lonnie, Van, Chris Barber and guests (including Dr John). I'll dig it out when I get home and get the details. BJ |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Looking for some Lonnie Donegan tra From: belfast Date: 12 Nov 02 - 09:03 AM I'm fairly sure that the track "Ain't No More Cane On The Brazos" was one of two on an album by the Chris Barber Jazz Band. I can't recall what the other track was. In other words, this was before he had a skiffle group or a solo career. "Ain't No More Cane On The Brazos" is, for me, Lonnie Donegan at his best. I found and downloaded it recently from a site called winmx.comI It was a slow tedious business but worth it. |

This has been released as "Lonnie...Plus" on Sequel. Released 28/02/00. Cat No: NEMCD343. This seems to be one of seven albums released in this fashion plus the double compliation I mentioned above. The company is called Sanctuary Records who have bought over Castle Music. The website is www.sanctuaryrecordsgroup.co.uk or WWW.castlemusic.com They don't seem to sell direct but say you can order from any high street store using above info. love, john. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Looking for some Lonnie Donegan tra From: GUEST,bigJ Date: 11 Apr 01 - 06:19 PM This is not a great deal of help for those particular tracks, but for what it's worth there's a CD called 'Lonnie Donegan - Skiffle Sensation' (Pye Records Originals). It's a 1998 release on the Castle Select label SELCD 539, it has 26 tracks from 1 - Midnight Special through 13 - Don't You Rock Me Daddy-O to 26 - Pick a Bale of Cotton, but it doesn't include any of the titles that you mention above. Lonnie also appears on a recently released double CD called 'As Good As It Gets - Skiffle Volume 2' on the Disky label in the Netherlands DO999862, I got my copy through HMV Direct. That has a total of 60 tracks of which 8 tracks are by Donegan, but, here again, none of the tracks that you're looking for. |
