Could it be this one, by Bloodwood? Info taken from this site.

BLOODWOOD
Long time Alice Springs residents Scott Balfour, Bob Barford, Dave Evans and Graham Peter (a Scot, a Pom and a couple of Aussies) are BLOODWOOD. The name comes from a prominent Eucalypt tree found on the sand plains of Central Australia. For over 21 years the band have entertained audiences in Alice Springs, at festivals around Australia and on several overseas trips. This song by Bob Sharpe relates the story of Jeannie Gunn who came to the Northern Territory in 1902 and subsequently wrote one of Australia's most popular books 'We of the Never Never. This track is from Disc 1 of 'The Bloodwood Collection'.

Spooky! I was just playing Boss Lady today from ye olde cassette (Facial Expressions)! Does anyone know where Bob is these days? Wherever he is, I hope he is still penning songs.

In case it isn't clear:

BOSS LADY was written by Bob Sharp and recorded by Bloodwood.

It is on the album "The Bloodwood Collection."

It is also included on the various-artists album "Jamberoo, A Change of Seasons," recorded at the Illawarra Folk Festival, September, 2001.

It was also recorded by Facial Expressions on their album "The Windmill Run," 1983.

Bob's my brother and is currently in Tasmania doing very well. He's preparing a new album and is back doing a few festivals. Went back to England with his wife Joyce for a while to travel and catch up with family. He taught me a rather grand version of Arthur McBride (Not Paul Brady's). It's strange seeing a conversation about my brother but cool.
