There is a celtic cross design called "St. Bridget's Cross". It is a simple design of 7 woven through 7 and the ends gathered in. Because it is simple, I can make them in my dough. I originally bought a resin casting of one as she is cited as the patron of doctors, healers and craftworkers. Is it the same as the above one?

February 1. Look up La Feile Bride or La Feile Brighde on Google and you should find a few entries. It's traditional here to make a cross with rushes like this

I remember being told that St. Brigid was associated specifically with red cows and that often the eldest red milk cow of a herd is called "Bridey" (one of her nicknames) in her honor.

There's an interesting image of St. Brigid to be seen above the doorway of the tower that stands on the summit of Glastonbury Tor. It's a stone bas relief above and to the left of the western doorway of the tower. If memory serves, you can make out a cow in the image. (The tower is all that remains of a church, dedicated to St. Michael, destroyed by an earthquake many centuries since.)

Because her dairy was famous, and she's also the patron of milkmaids, cheesemakers etc etc. And she made great beer.

webshots.com has a picture of St Brigid, no cow. Why would the patron St of Blacksmiths want a cow anyway. JohnB

well, if you are willing to get a more pagan representation (the goddess Brigid, as opposed to the saint) there are a number of catalogs/companies who make them...she is revered as a figure of Celktic myth: the goddess of poetry, healing and smithcraft. At Imbolc/Candlemas she is featured in rites which emphasize her connection to domestic creatures (lambing, etc.) and the rebirth of the land in spring...

As for statues I ahve seen a number of them from different makers:

Mythic Images, for example, out of California.

Paul Borda, a sculptor from Vermont.

If you type in "Brigid statue" in a serach you will probably find any number of mail order sources...

I got a small pewter statue of St Brigid in a Cornish gift shop.(UK) She is holding a flaming torch, and there are celtic knotwork designs on the base of the figure. The do them for around a tenner, I think. No cow though.

Many USA towns also have gift shops that specialize in Irish imports as well. And this sounds like a great excuse for net-surfing.

You don't say where you live, but in most larger U.S. cities, there is at least one "gift shop" affiliated with a local church that recognizes saints. If they don't have what you want in stock, they likely can order it for you. You might look in the yellow pages under "churches."
