Subject: RE: Davy Steele - RIP From: Les from Hull Date: 12 Apr 01 - 01:21 PM I very much admired Davy's work with Ceolbeg and the Batties. A fine songwriter and a wonderful voice. He'll be very sadly missed. |
Subject: RE: Davy Steele - RIP From: BeauDangles Date: 12 Apr 01 - 02:07 PM This is sad news indeed. Thus ends of of the most distinctive voices in Scottish music. By all accounts his was a spirit full of music and good humor. We are all richer for his presence, and poorer for his passing. He fought this monster for nearly a year. He is at peace now. May the same peace come to his family and friends. BeauD |
Subject: RE: Davy Steele - RIP From: GUEST,Matt_R Date: 12 Apr 01 - 03:33 PM I will miss him too. Davy playing with Ceolbeg was one of the very first things I started listening to when I got into Irish & Scottish folk back in '97. I loved when he joined Battlefield Band. And now like the horse in his song, he's "made his last trip home"... |

Subject: RE: Davy Steele - RIP From: Nynia Date: 12 Apr 01 - 05:11 PM I had the privelidge to play on the same bill as Davy Steel (with Ceolbeg in their early years) about nine years ago at a folk weekend in Stranraer. I can assure you he was most supportive and helpfull to me. Later that night we went to a party at my friends house, we sat on the floor and swapped songs for hours, I ran out long before him. Davy polished of the best part of a bottle of Glayva in fine style, Brian reconed it was a small price to pay for such entertainment. My lasting impression of that night was the sheer joy and admiration on the faces of the non-folkies. Make no mistake Davy Steele was a very special person, a superb musician and a very under-rated songwriter. He was every bit as nice as everyone here has previously indicated. There's gonna be some singarounds in heaven from now on, rest in peace Davy. Nynia. |
