Subject: From: Hollowfox Date: 12 Apr 01 - 03:36 PM I copied this from a bulletin board when I was in library school. (For those of you not in the library biz, Shiyali Ramarta Ranganathan (he was from India) developed a very thorough (but not often used) cataloging system based on five "facets" of each book: Personality, Matter, Energy, Space, and Time. PMEST was also an acronym for "Pass My Ermine Suspenders, Tammy". This raised a lot of speculation, but was a lot easier to remember. Colons (No, the punctuation, 'Spaw) were used between the facets when writing down a book's "ID".)Anyway...
RANGANATHAN'S RAIDERS THEME SONG
(male chorus): Ranga-Nathan, Ranga-Nathan, Ranga-Nathan, Ranga-Nathan
Who's the leader of the club for us li-brar-i-a-ns?
Ranganathan (Ranganathan), Ranganathan (Ranganathan)
Who's the leader of the club for us li-brar-i-a-ns?
Ranganathan (Ranganathan), Ranganathan (Ranganathan)

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Another Librarian Song From: Hollowfox Date: 16 Apr 01 - 03:05 PM That's no fantasy, Dick. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Another Librarian Song From: SINSULL Date: 16 Apr 01 - 03:44 PM "Marian, The Librarian" from the Music Man. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Another Librarian Song From: Burke Date: 16 Apr 01 - 04:37 PM Ah yes, colon classification. The system the cataloging profs loved to talk about because it was intellectually satisfying. When our head of Tech Services retired, we sang a few for her. Too bad we didn't know about this one. |
