I noticed in another thread that Benjamin said he was in Ballard, as am I. I wonder- are there more of us? We should do a coffee thang, some afternoon!

Hi ChaosCat. Yes there are, I think, more of us here. I live just north of Ballard, and am often there or in Fremont. In fact, drop by Wit's End Bookstore in Fremont (34th St. under the Aurora bridge) for our open mic every Wed eve (sign-up at 6:45, music at 7 pm), or first Thurs of month at 7 pm when I host a trad music (Celtic Isles & Northern Lands) instrumental and singing jam. Or PM me and I'll meet you for coffee sometime.

Cheers, S. in Seattle

Hey guys, does Sandy Bradley still do her Pot Luck radio show, and is it available online? She moved the show from Wallingford (Gateway to Ballard) to the Museum of History and Industry right before I left Seattle in 1990. (I lived in Meridian.) I couldn't find it on the KUOW site, but maybe I was looking in the wrong place.

Aloha,
Mark

Hi Mark. Sandy has not done that show in quite a while and she turned over her NWFolklife auction to new hands after last year. I don't really know her, just of her. Her ex, Hank, and Cathy Whitesides play Greek music at a neighborhood Greek restaurant (Georgia's, NW 85th between 3rd & 4th Ave NW) about twice a month - pretty neat! You should come and visit sometime - Seattle Song Circle is still going on. Even the weather changed for last winter - we traded with So. Calif. - L.A. had more rain than Seattle. Actually we need it back since we are in drought and energy crisis (thanks to California!).

Cheers, S. in Seattle

An auction without Colonel Bradley? Heavens! If you do ever get to see her, or the Canote twins, tell them I said hello. Actually, I may be in Seattle this spring, but I think I'll be on a tight schedule of meetings and don't know if I'll have time for any music. If there is going to be some flexibility in the schedule, I'll check in here before my trip.

Aloha,
Mark

~ChaosChucklez~
It always amuses me to see the Ballard bumperstickers and tee-shirts that say "Uff Da!" on them. Apparently there are very few people in Seattle, or even in Ballard that actually know what this saying means.
For those who care, the term is one of sympathy- something you might say to someone in pain or grief. So in a sense, one is saying, "You come from Ballard? Oh. I'm sorry."

From Ballard without Scandinavian names? I didn't know that was allowed. Viva Sons of Norway! Ay ban wun.

Where's the KUOW tower now? I used to be practically in its shadow, in Bagley Hall, and when they went on the air all of my electonic instruments would go crazy.

Bruce, KUOW moved off campus recently to new studios on Univ. Way just N of 45th St. I believe their tower is on Capital Hill. Here's their web info page click here. I'm recently retired from Chem Dept faculty and still share an office and lab in new Chem Bldg adjacent to Bagley Hall.

Cheers, S. in Seattle

KUOW's transmitter tower is at 17th Avenue and Madison Street, about ten or twelve blocks from where I live. I don't need a radio -- I can pick them up on my fillings.

Bumper-sticker seen in Ballard:

Norwegian driver
Thank you for not laughing.
