Here are the lyrics as best I can transcribe them - if it is the lyrics you are after:

WEST VIRGINIA
(Hazel Dickens)

Refrain:

West Virginia, oh my home
West Virginia's where I belong
In the dead of the night
In the still and the quiet
I slip away like a bird in flight
Back to those hills, the place that I call home

It's been years now since I left there
And this city life's about got the best of me
I can't remember why I left so free
What I wanted to do, what I wanted to see
But I sure can sure remember where I came from

Repeat refrain.

Well I paid the price for the leaving [could be 'for believing]
And this life I have is not one I thought I'd find
Well let me live, love, let me cry
When I go, just let me die
Among the friends who'll remember when I'm gone

Repeat refrain

Home, home, home – oh I can see it so clear in my mind
Home, home, home – I can almost smell the honeysuckle vine
In the dead of the night
In the still and the quiet
I slip away like a bird in flight
Back to those hills, the place that I call home – home.

I only know the chorus from this song. Anyone know the rest?

Chorus:

West Virginia, you are my home West Virginia's where I belong In the dead of the night in the still of the quiet I slip away like a bird in flight back to that place, the land that I come from.

I don't know the words, but I think it was recorded by the group "Trapezoid" back in the 1980s

Thank's Carol. With your info I tracked down a Trapezoid record,"Three Forks of Cheat" which came out in 1978. It does have a track on it "West Virginia". I will have to check it out. Thanks!

Bob

This song was written by Hazel Dickens, who comes from West Virginia. It's on several of her albums.

Drat . . . one more time:

Chorus:

West Virginia, oh my home.

West Virginia, where I belong.

In the dead of the night, in the still and the quiet I slip away like a bird in flight

Back to those hills, the place that I call home.

It's been years now since I left there

And this city life's about got the best of me.

I can't remember why I left so free what I wanted to do, what I wanted to see,

But I can sure remember where I come from.

Repeat Chorus

Well I paid the price for the leavin'

And this life I have is not one I thought I'd find.

Just let me live, love, let my cry, but when I go just let me die

Among the friends who'll remember when I'm gone.

Home, home, home. I can almost smell the honeysuckle vines.

In the dead of the night, in the still and the quiet I slip away like a bird in flight

Back to those hills, the place that I call home.

That's a beautiful song.

...I can almost smell the honeysuckle vines.

In the dead of the night, in the still and the quiet I slip away like a bird in flight

Back to those hills, the place that I call home.

Songs don't get much better than that.

Isn't it? I'm particularly fond of the line:

"Just let me live, love, let me cry, but when I go just let me die

Among the friends who'll remember when I'm gone."

Surely the post by "Stewie shows the complete lyrics" unless he and I have different recordings to everyone else that is.

And there is no "You Are" in the title.
