Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wrecking Ball (Neil Young) From: Rapunzel Date: 24 Mar 08 - 08:03 AM Minor differences in the oringinal Neil Young version: My life's an open book - read it on the radio. We've got nowhere to hide, we've got nowhere to go, But if you still decide You want to take a ride, CHORUS: Meet me at the wrecking ball, wrecking ball, Wear something pretty and white And we'll go dancing tonight Meet me at the wrecking ball, wrecking ball, Wear something pretty and white And we'll go dancing tonight I see your smoky eyes right across the bar. I've seen that look before, shining from star to star. Though I can't take that chance, If you've got time for one dance. CHORUS. The restless line of cars goes stretching down the road, But I won't telephone 'cause you might say hello. What is it makes me feel this way? What is it makes me want to say: CHORUS. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wrecking Ball (Neil Young) From: Rapunzel Date: 23 Mar 08 - 06:01 PM I've always loved this song and have been singing it occasionally at folk clubs/singarounds for many years now. I'd always understood Wrecking Ball to mean if they go ahead and meet (wherever) it will wreck everything - this is a song about two people who ought not to be having this affair and there is doubt as to whether she will turn up and risk everything anyway. Could be totally off the mark, but that's the way I've always read it. |

Subject: Lyr Add: WRECKING BALL (Neil Young) From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Mar 08 - 11:53 PM Found at several places on the Internet: WRECKING BALL Neil Young My life's an open book. You read it on the radio. We've got nowhere to hide. We got nowhere to go, But if you still decide You want to take a ride, CHORUS: Meet me at the wrecking ball, wrecking ball, I'll wear something pretty and white And we'll go dancing tonight Meet me at the wrecking ball, wrecking ball, I'll wear something pretty and white And we'll go dancing tonight I see smoky eyes right across the bar. I've seen that look before, shining from star to star. Though I can't take that change, If you've got time for one dance. CHORUS. The restless line of cars goes stretching down the road, But I won't telephone 'cause you might say hello. What is it makes me feel this way? What is it makes me want to say: CHORUS. [As sung by Emmylou Harris.] |
Subject: RE: wrecking ball - request info From: GUEST Date: 22 Apr 01 - 08:29 PM The song was written by Neil Young which probably explains everything. So just check yourself into the NYCFTTS and Spaw will explain everything else to you and RogertheSkiffler will clean your bedpan. rr |

Subject: RE: wrecking ball - request info From: Tweedie Date: 22 Apr 01 - 01:17 PM OK, thanks Margeret. I thought it was some sort of high school dance ! I get these weird ideas from the films I see about American life (John Hughs' films etc) |

Subject: wrecking ball - request info From: Tweedie Date: 19 Apr 01 - 02:28 PM In her 1996 album "Wrecking Ball", and on track 4 "Wrecking Ball" Emmylou Harris sings in the chorus, "Meet me at the wrecking ball" but there are no hints in the lyrics or the album notes as to what exactly is a "Wrecking Ball" in this context. Surely she doesn't mean Meet me at the spherical weight on a chain ?? Mudcatters -- any suggestions for a puzzled Brit? ( Not too many wrong answers, please! ) Thanks. |
