And it's got lots of links to threads on the Mudcat into the bargain. Clearly a sensible fella, this Rod Smith. What's his Mudname?

Hi Guys, I noticed I've been getting a few visitors to my site (www.traditionalmusic.co.uk) from this thread. Anyway I joined up - looks interesting like a interesting scene here. My user ID by the way refers to my fiddle playing.

Best wishes to you all Rod Smith

Neat site, Rod.

That sound clip has been annoying the shite out of me for five days. A tune I can play (badly) and couldn't remember the name for the life of me. Wind that shakes the Barley?

The sound is grand in that bit, but all the midis automatically open in Cakewalk on my box, and I haven't mastered finding the least annoying instrument sounds yet. If Cakewalk can't open them, I seem to be scuppered anyway. Has the CD got all the tunes in its own playing program? Sorry to sound so pig thick, but I'm not the sharpest knife in the computer draw.

If you tell me which page eg main menu the tune is associated with I can tell you what it is. Ok on cakewalk, yes that is NOT the best thing to have as your default midi player. I find the best small allround player is Microsoft Media player 6.4 (don't get version 7 -it's huge, horrible and keeps calling home - some sort of spyware) If you have MP6.4 already you might have to go into folder options to associate mid files with it. It won't mess up your cakewalk - I also use cakewalk 9.

I do provide a copy of it on the CD but no other midi player.

Regards

Freereed (me bruvver) and me are playing a family wedding gig at Chailey this summer. Is that near you?

You wer right that tune is the wind that shakes th barley.

Chailey sounds familier as somewhere local but without checking a map.

Yo Banjo-Flower!

Ain't gonna make it to Wootton next time as I'm on the Mudcat German Junket, bouncing about in an old tub in the North Sea.

BUT, I wanted to tell you that I found that tune I aske you about, in JC's, under Whistling Rufus. Bill, Sam & Ian have done a fine version on their latest CD (plug plug).

I have put a new search engine on this site because the old one was not finding a lot of songs that are there. Give it a try. Rod

Since it's not been mentioned above, the site is A TRADITIONAL MUSIC LIBRARY, "A traditional and folk music archive of songbooks, tune-books, sheet-music, lyrics, midis, tablature, plus music reference, chord diagrams, scales and other music educational & academic reference materials." A lot of it is American old-time music. Rod Smith, the site's creator is editor of American Bluegrass News magazine in the U.K.

Try signing up for the free sheet music, it's a joke, they want your life story and all your personal details, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.
